With a different story for every chapter, Mushishi connects with many people from different parts of Edo Japan. The magic system and interpretation of youkais is very unique to the genre and the stories holds to your heart. 10/10, I wish there was more.
The peak of shounen. I have read a lot of shounen ever since but after a couple of months, I completely lost interest on them. I have read FMA 3 times already and I'm excited to read it again in the future.
A sunny day in highschool I never had. 3 beings united by death go on a journey.
It breaks my heart every time I read a new arch. It's a beautiful pain but it did take a toll on me. I recommend reading it little by little. It kinda makes me think that this is what Link from Zelda feels like, trapped in reincarnation, forced to keep moving. *There's no youkais* but the episodic structure and the heavy focus on different stories makes me want to put it on the list. 10/10
Remember that time when you're walking home after school and a breeze of wind crosses your face, making you look at the blue sky? That's Natsume Yuujinchou. Lightweight, with gentle characters and deep stories. Even with the episodic structure, there's a background story and mystery relating to Natsume's grandmother but I must admit that this subplot is really slow. 9/10
Long one-shot story. The style is beautiful but very confusing in some parts. This may look like an easy breezy story but it's not. Horror and violence acts are present. The pacing is incredible and holds your breath, wanting to unravel the secrets the house holds. 8/10
I was presented to this manga as "dark Mushishi" and it kinda makes sense. This one is more heavily inspired on the real youkais of Edo Japan (even though it's on present times), no cute kappas in here. Heavyweight and makes you reconsider what morality is. Penance and atonement are strong concepts in the story but there's also a little bit of comedy sprinkled around. 9/10
Nostalgia for something that never happen. I don't think about Emanon a lot, but when I do, it is with fondness.
Soo this may be the weakest in this list lol. Tbh, it's one of those stories you just need to enjoy it for the vibes. There's some issues with the plot, characters and.. well everything jsjs but I still enjoyed it.
