this a autobiography by Nakazawa Keiji. He was around 6 years old when the Bomb was dropped in Hiroshima, just when he was going to school. Only his mother survived to the blast.
In this manga he tells his story and he's feelings of rage, fury and rancour towards the japanese government and the Americans. How life didn't make justice to his dead family and how it eventually take his mother's life. Due to the radiation, not even a bone remained.

The childhood of Keiji Nakazawa dies on a sunny Monday morning. The biggest mass destruction weapon of human history is thrown at the Japanese town Hiroshima. Twenty years after the incident, Nakazawa begins to work through the gruesome events of his childhood and begins to draw manga from the character Gen, that, just like him, loses his loved ones and see the living ones suffer endlessly until they die.

this is about the miserable life the victims faced after the bomb and their ways to cope with that, either with revenge or remembering the long lost loved ones until they die themselves.
As the government neglected them and face prejudice because of scars, "bad genes" because radiation and being sick and ill with no cure and dying young in pain.

For a captain and a subordinate, pure love is born out of an unfeeling time of war, strict rules and order, and a superior-subordinate relationship.

the captain is a bit toxic, but ended up enjoying it. Captain was toxic because he was insecure about their relationship, but the subordinate always made the time to reassure his feelings and establish a strong bond. Captain is able to have more self confidence and believes in his subordinate's love

this is a love story that happens during and after the war time in japan.

honestly didn't really liked since the dude (the one lying down holding a hat) was basically a playboy then acts as if he really only had eyes for the other dude (the one who is sitting with crossed legs)

fucking sad, the idea is that by hoping for or expecting a good life that we can never have, we prolong our torment. Thus it is better to live without hope, and it is good that hope remained in the jar. But if hope is good, then its imprisonment makes life even more dreary and insufferable.
