WHY I LOVE THIS STORY: If you just want to hurt read this. God it's so fucking sad yet so precious it honestly hurts. The depiction of trauma is skillfully done and original. The plot is WILD!
Yakuza members Odajima and Kataoka are sent away on a trip after Kataoka. However, this trip hides the true mission: Odajima has been ordered to kill Kataoka.
Why I Love This Story: Every time I read this story I love it more. One of the shorter stories on this list BUT the story is truly sweet. I'm obsessed.
On a dark and snowy night, doctor Sho-an drags home what he believes to be the corpse of a beautiful man. Sho-an names his corpse-turned-patient Yuki and gains a houseguest that eats his food and keeps his bed warm throughout the year.
Why I Love This Story: " The story sits somewhere between a psychologically textured romance between two lost souls who find one another in an improbable way and a folk tale, with larger-than-life but flat characters and hyperbolic violence"
College student Haiga has just entered the Multiphonics Research Club. It’s there that he meets an impressive upperclassman, Kanae. Fascinated by his stunning guitar performance, he thinks, “I want to try talking to him”.
Why I Love This Story: I truly loved the communication between these characters. They also work through the difference between admiration, infatuation and love. I like that the story progresses over a whole year to go from strangers to lovers.
Shouji is Honami's current boyfriend. Terumi was the first guy that Honami ever liked.
When Shouji and Terumi two meet, what sparks between them is curiosity, jealousy or...?
Why I Love This Story: Because I'm trash. It’s so irrational and chaotic and maybe the main couple is trash but DAMN like a Dog To Its Vomit I keep going back to this story. It's as romantic as Twilight. I think everyone should read this, who doesn't love teenage angst and chaotic love triangles?
Soongap, a slave, is nearly beaten to death by his master when friendly giant Bongchun buys him and saves his life.
Why I Loved This Story: Soongap's story is hard to swallow sometimes, but it's so beautifully told. He both processes grief and falls in love in a believable pace. Bongchun is perfect in every way possible. The villain of this story is also sympatric in a dark twisted way. Soongap and Bongchun’s happiness is all that matters to me now.
