ongoing (which is a shame bc i can’t get enough of this shoujo’s art style) - the male lead’s character design is gorjus he’s everything to me historical plot but there’s a bit of a modern twist!
rundown of the plot: yui, a girl from the 20th century, somehow gets transported to the sengoku period after entering a time machine. she encounters a young lord and slowly becomes enamored with him.
ongoing - vv beautiful art. after i finished the last chapter, i literally had to sit in silence for a few minutes to process everything BC THERE WAS A LOTTT TO TAKE IN. i would definitely recommend this to anyone who is needing to project their anger and frustration — as you can do so onto MULTIPLE characters in this manga
finished - 10000000/10 read. i loooove this manhwa so much it’s insane. beautiful art + creative story plot. this is tagged as bl but rather than solely focusing on the couple, there’s a lot of other emotional and psychological aspects that are centered around the /other/ characters at play. ive never cried so much after reading a piece of media, so DEFINITELY read this if you need a good cry 😇
btw there is suicide/sexual assault involved!
finished - 100/10. rewarded the cutest shoujo ever by me i love the author’s art style; it gives me a lot of nostalgia for some reason. the characters have a lot of complexity and emotional depth to them, which makes this shoujo very fresh compared to others imo. however, if you don’t like love triangles, this isn’t for you!
finished - another shoujo but are we surprised atp <__< another read i LOVEE so much. after reading this, i couldn’t stop thinking about it for a few days lol
because the fml and ml carry a lot of emotional baggage, the plot is pretty dark; however, it builds up beautifully! this one reminded me a bit of nana, so if you enjoyed that manga i highly recommend this one
finished - omfg this is a classic shoujo read. if you haven’t read this yet, do so NEOW ive reread this manga like 5x bc that’s how much i like it. gorgeous art, lighthearted plot (compared to the some of the other shoujo mangas in this list), and vv lovable characters!
ongoing - another shoujo! if you dislike slow burns then you’ll definitely be frustrated with this one lol. regardless, this is one of my top three shoujo reads bc of how creative and fun the plot is, so please give it a try!
rundown of the plot: kyoko is an aspiring actress who wants to take revenge on her old love interest + rising singer, sho. HOWEVER, in doing so, she crosses paths with ren — one of japan’s most highly regarded actors (and sho’s nemesis)…
finished - probably one of the few horror mangas i like (tbf i haven’t read a lot but junji ito has a beautiful art style that makes it hard to resist LOL) this is a one-shot that i thoroughly enjoyed reading! i kinda got chills at the end
finished - 10/10 amazing read!! i definitely got attached to some of the characters as the story progressed, which is pretty rare for me. this is a survival story, so this manga literally had me at the edge of my seat. if you’ve happened to watch the anime but not read the manga, give it a try bc the latter is 10x better and much more fleshed out imo.
finished - another classic :’) i actually love both the anime and manga, which is rare bc i typically prefer one or the other. the plot builds up beautifully, and the ending was so satisfying and didn’t feel rushed at all. this is a first love kind of story that i recommend to anyone!
