Nagisa Furuya is probably one of the best BL authors, period. They don't have a speck in their track record, all of their comics are always 4/5 to 5/5. This couple get to inspire each other to be better and they have great communication which is usually super rare. This is another great strangers to friends to lovers, so if that's one of your favorite tropes, you'll love this too.
This probably has one of the best endings of a high school manga. This is a little slower compared to some of the other stuff on this list, but it's a great read and the characters carry the entire thing. Also like this is the only time a love triangle has ever worked, so if that's not your thing, don't worry it's not the focus on the manga. I highly recommend rereading this after you see the ending because things will make so much more sense if you do and it'll make it so much better.
This is a comedic masterpiece beyond proportion. This gives Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai VS Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko vibes. The only critique is that it ends way too soon. I won't spoil anything only that this is a must-read, and you be on the floor cackling after you're done.
It's death note.
I don't know else you want from me. It's Death Note. Just read it.
Not enough people know this exists and it's absolute crime. This is one of the best psychological, mystery webtoons I've ever read. If you're looking for romance, I'm sorry you won't get any because the characters are busy try to stop a cult and the mc is dealing with trying to figure out emotions because he didn't have any so... It's a feast for the mind. If you like mystery kdramas or mind-bending comics this is your jam.
This was lightning in a bottle in the 2010s. This was the closest that a BL had gotten to being a LGBTQ+ story back then. The art is a feast for the eyes, the story is phenomenal and immediately draws you in. A creative, diverse cast (as in LATINOS AND AFRO-AMERICANS ARE HERE IN A KOREAN MANHWA CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT ?!?!?!). A very important story to read about the struggle for LGBT+ rights, especially in the music industry, and also Asian hate. Tw: racial slurs, homophobia, self harm
Oh how I wish this was finished. This simultaneously a hard read and manga that will completely suck you in. It's a good entry in to the horror genre, and it is that first and foremost and just happens to feature gay characters. The mystery of finding out who this new Hikaru, while Yoshiki is struggling with losing his best friend and trying not to get attached to 'Hikaru'. Beware of some of the terrifying visuals, but it doesn't overstay its welcome.
Even though it didn't start out that way, it became one of the best action, mystery BL comics in this genre. Park Jiyeon has one of my most favorite styles next Son Gaepi. Not only is the story amazing, and the romance is impeccably great, this is the greatest meme fodder I have ever seen. This is definitely a must-read, it is one of the greats of 2010s BL. It gets more angsty towards the end but the main couple are the most hilarious couple I've seen and they are a joy to read in every panel.
The rating for this is way too low, definitely doesn't deserve it. I can get why but people need to know this is a masterpiece when you understand the pain of internalized homophobia. There is SA, but the manga doesn't condone it, it is a form of self-harm for the MC because he feels horrible for rejecting the person he loved. When you understand them, seeing him have to work on how to forgive himself is just heart-wrenching. There are two stories, but it pales in comparison to the first.
This is another hard one. If you don't like tragedy romance I understand if you wanna sit this one out, but I think this is the best approach to it and just a perfect example of how adult's abuse/neglect can negatively affect children. It's an important cautionary tale and you just feel for the main characters and the art ofc is just so gorgeous despite the harrowing tale.
