fuck war. most of the tragedy comes from the war aspects. the author establishes heartwarming and wholesome relationships and dynamics, sweet to the point of idyllic, and then gradually transitions the story to the central conflict: the Japanese war, and how it shatters peace and brings tragedy to both victims and their families

the concept and overall execution is decent for a tragic depressing oneshot. mc has an unrequited love for his friend, who lost his wife. i think it could've been more emotionally inducing if it was longer. tragic ending. pitiful mc

mc deals with the suicide of her best friend. why did she kill herself? the story doesn't necessarily explain the reasons, but we see what the she is like thru mc's lens as she reminisces. the almost comical scenes juxtaposed with her raw sadness create a bittersweet yet painful story about grappling with a loved one's death, and how transient life is. it's realistic and doesn't feel pretentious with how simply mc returns to her normalcy.

shiiitttttt.... my heart. i couldn't stop tearing up during the last chapter. the art is so beautiful. THEY are so beautiful. what a heartwrenching, dramatic, and bittersweet ending.

i read the sequel, Host, as well and overall, it feels overly melodramatic and a bit unrealistic with the sheer amount of tragedy occurring within short intervals... it broke my immersion. the shoujo artstyle didn't help either.

their relationship is wholesome, beautiful, tender, and sweet but marked with foreboding doom and tragedy. there is one particular weird scene (ch 7), and an important storyline + buildup about ml's crimes and creepy friend that is forgotten but otherwise, it's a well-written read

the "comedy" tag is misleading. sure, the simple art style makes things light-hearted, but comedy is far from the central plot. the story depicts a lot of parent-child dynamics, emotional baggage, trauma, abuse, etc. It's not exactly sad, but it's realistic, the charas are toxic, and it gives me anxiety how much they fail (esp eunyung)

the mangaka really ripped my heart out in this one. i was utterly sobbing in the last chapter. the juxtaposition between how trivial that chara's death is despite surviving for so long, yet how at peace/happy/satisfied he must have felt is painful. besides the tragedy, the storyline's engaging and immersive, and the protagonist is truly one of the most admirable and resilient charas I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. a goddamn masterpiece.
