I read this a while back, so I’ll prob update this review once I have the chance to revisit this.
From what I remember, I ate this story up. I think there was a bit of time spent too much on unnecessary or unimportant story points but it wasn’t too bad. The art is beautiful and also I am just a sucker for historical.
Palace of Bardo but add modern reincarnation + seme would get sentenced to more years in prison
The Korean ver is completed. I think this is the more fleshed out version of PoB even though there’s only 33 chapters. There’s no unnecessary dragging out of plot points and the switches between modern day and past life are very natural.
The plot is GREAT, but the ending is a little abrupt. Info is revealed very meticulously (wonderful pacing)—I WANT MORE :((
I prefer to separate the art from the artist (spoilers). If the self insert issue is factored out, I think this is a, honestly, one of the most realistic portrayals of this trope. BUT there is one BIG caveat and that is if the ending did not exist!! The story, in the beginning, shys away from portraying the seme as lovable or human. The depiction of the uke’s alcoholism is, what I think, honestly a very real response. However, the ending…I can’t even describe in words how much
I will be honest, I cried A LOT when I was reading this, especially close to the end. I really, really feel bad for the uke. This is, I think, the most realistic portrayal of mental illness. It’s not romanticizing it or ignoring it. I appreciate this story a lot.
This one is a little different from the others, but I figured it still counts.
This is different in the sense that the author constantly tries to use love as the seme’s motive and tries to portray him as a “good” guy struggling in love. It’s….you know, acceptable; the seme hasn’t really done like…geneva-convention-breaking things, but I still kinda dont like him.
Anyway props to this story for at least attempting to get the uke therapy. I appreciate
Okay, TECHNICALLY this isn’t imprisonment per se—the uke isnt physically detained, but he is extremely mentally trapped.
I know i just said that i like to separate the art and artist, but this is so crazy i cant even ignore it. The author genuinely believes that minho is just a misunderstood boi :3. I stopped taking this manhwa seriously after that s2 qna. There’s a lot of lost potential for this one. The characters and their personalities COULD have been so nuanced.
Very possessive seme + confinement
this one’s a classic; been reading it since korean serialization. Art is GORGEOUS, but more importantly also plot oriented. Tbh, i feel maybe the author bit off more than they could chew bc some characs and plot points were left neglected, and i feel that the middle part of the story was kind of useless. HOWEVER, very detailed plot + the ending was actually the best ive seen in a while. Charac motivations are quite questionable and illogical at times
