“I can only feel love towards you. Not friendship or admiration. Nor is it romance or respect. It’s just love.”
No. 6 is special to me. I first read the manga in 2021 and for some reason it never left my mind. I’ve reread it 3 times now and I’ve also read the novels (I strongly recommend checking them out).
Nezushi is one of my favorite ships ever, I really don’t know how to put my feelings about them into words but they mean so much to me.
“To Juli, one last time. This is my love. This is the sound of my heart. Surely you must understand.”
Gorgeously written & illustrated, and dramatic in a way that only a shoujo can be. Heart of Thomas is a masterpiece and I think Hagio Moto is a genius. A must read if you’re into BL.
I wasn’t originally planning to add Houseki no Kuni, but why not? It’s such an influential manga to me. The art, the characters, the story, the buddhist themes & the way everything is built up… Houseki no Kuni is one of, if not the best manga I’ve ever read.
Absolutely heart wrenching & tragic. Don’t read this if you’re not ready for it
I don’t think of “J no Subete” as a yaoi because I believe J is written as a trans woman, just to make that clear
MADK is seriously insane, but I loved every second of it. Another one of those mangas that I keep thinking about. If you think you can handle the body horror, gore and weird demon genitalia I’d give it a shot. It’s seriously so good
Oniisama E.. a classic yuri.
What drew me in was that enchanting 70s shoujo artstyle, but I stayed for the characters. It’s very much a tragedy, and sometimes I wish things would’ve ended differently. I love the story dearly and I think every yuri fan should read it.
“Because we met so that we would live.”
Pietà is probably my favorite yuri manga. Though Sahako and Rio are so different in their upbringing, they seem to be able to give each other exactly what they need. I thought it was beautifully written and handled themes of mental illness with care.
Very unlike some of the other mangas on this list. it’s by Harada, which should say enough. It’s fucked up, don’t expect a sweet romance because you’re not getting one. I like the way it’s written, its unnerving at first and that slowly turns into something horrific. I also love Harada’s art style
Despite being a manga from 1989, “Moonlight Flowers” has a really good depiction of lesbianism & also feminist themes. I really love this manga as a lesbian
