The manga that inspired this thread.
The way the magic is written is so unique, and just like Coco, the reader becomes irrevocably fascinated with the newly discovered world. The outfit, and background design beautiful in it's own right. Every detail adds to the atmosphere. My favourite of all, are character motivations and concepts. Concepts, ranging from the innocent creativity of children who aren't weighed down by cruel realities, to the complexities of morality.
Love blossoms between an inmate sentenced to death, and a woman, whose many attempts to die fail, no matter how hard she tries. I've haven't cried as hard reading any manga, as I have with this.
Fundamentally changed how I look at world design. The world feels lived in. Moreover, it very respectfully plays homage to many cultures, despite being fantasy. Each species, detailed with tradition, and belief. Moreover, the world is littered with myth, and small monuments. Made me realize when you're so caught up with the realities of a fantasy world, it is so easy to forget the beliefs of the people inhabiting it. This is, of course, not even touching on the magic, and outfit designs.
A beautiful manga that explores gender identity, trauma, and two characters who bounce off each other to ultimately heal, as well as grow. Just a well written story, with mesmerizing art to accompany it.
