Salaryman Kouta finds a young man sitting outside of his house in the cold. Kouta does his best to ignore him, but when the boy faints, Kouta takes him. Though Kouta expected him to leave, when he got back the next day, the strange boy was still in his house. The young man tells Kouta he'd like to show his gratitude by paying him back with his body. After giving in, Kouta ends up letting the boy, now named Kuro, stay with him and Kouta can't help comparing Kuro to a cat.

After 7 years, Kokoro's finally returned to his former boarding school. On the first night, Kokoro sneaks out past curfew to find Chanko, a stray cat that lives in the area. Instead of the reunion he's hoped for, Kokoro gets caught by Hiragi, school nurse and dorm supervisor. With his plan to see Chanko ruined, Kokoro's opinion of Hiragi starts off horrible. However, after Hiragi saves Kokoro from being assaulted, Kokoro feelings about Hiragi change, since he realizes Hiragi was his first love.
