Too short for any real build up or momentum but for what it *did* accomplish, it was an interesting story! Oneshots always give the impression of being pretty wistful like this so the unhappy(?) ending was satisfying. Or, rather than being “unhappy,” the ending was refreshingly realistic
This was super introspective. The unpleasant, self-proclaimed “trash” social reject and the school’s beloved star. One’s a breath of fresh air and the other is, even as the protagonist, insufferable. Not only is this pairing intriguing, but so is the plot, which can actually hold its own here. It has a slow start but it really picks up at the end, everything ties together pretty nicely, if a bit messy (?). This was an *extremely* fulfilling read.
“Whether or not our effort is wasted is surely up to us.” This is a sweet story with characters that effortlessly move you… Toyama was such a sweetheart T_T. I absolutely love how his past unraveled through Nekota’s telling of it, which was such an effective way of showing how in love he was. I could sense all the adoration Nekota had for Toyama as if it were my own. Which is why I’m semi-attached to these characters now T_T. What a heartwarming story…
The “Angel’s Trumpet” is a small tree with tubular flowers that hang downwards, kind of like how a bat sleeps. They’re pretty and smell good, but they’re extremely poisonous hallucinogens. But then, there’s the “Devil’s Trumpet” in the same family, which is low lying and faces upward instead! Interestingly, both of them bloom at night. O.O The flower shown in the manga seems more like the Angel's Trumpet.
Some of the most stunning art and purposeful storytelling in a BL! This little series is stacked with ridiculously perfect pages where every panel is intentional and that’s something I REALLY value in a manga. I will say, I didn’t enjoy couple 2’s story. It didn’t show me a side of Take that I wanted to root for. Even so, a bittersweet story like his (that’s more bitter than sweet) is hard not to be swayed by.
Color Collection gave us “eccentric sculptor + struggling graphic artist” & “burnt out artist + his muse/former ballerina.” This gave us “adventerous photographer + wary homebody,” only that is a gross oversimplification of their dynamic. They’re both memory keepers in their own way, one with photos and the other by treasuring the little things, and I think the sentimentality they both approach life with is what made this couple so satisfying.
Wowza I’m surprised this one’s rated so low compared to the the author’s other works. I absolutely adored this. Akira is so off-the-wall and stunted—a hard character to pull off—but his progression was really well-done. At times it was certainly lazy or made poor writing choices but this deserves a bit of a higher rating.
There’s so much to love about this one. I think I say the same thing after every great read like this one but if they’re in this list, they’ve all truly stood out to me for different reasons. For this one, even though Theo’s archetype is common in manga, this portrayal of it strikes me as natural and balanced. This archetype is normally more outlandish, maybe cartoonish, but here, it’s simply lighthearted here and there, more towards the end as you get to know Theo.
Erm I loved this so much. But it is 3AM and I have class tomorrow at 9AM. So no review. But holy cow this was epic. Baby’s first porn with plot
