My first thought is FUCK I CAUGHT UP, and I think that’s one of the mightiest compliments you can give. This is clearly the climax, the progression of the art, the strength of the narrative are clear as day. Something I noticed is that the villages our gang visits on their journey, are progressively in a rougher state than the previous, and it’s a subtle way of showing the long lasting and growing effects of the anomaly. It’s showing there’s no way back and I adore it for that! PLEASE UPDATE
This is some fucked up shit that makes you all kinds of queasy, it’s the extreme end of dogblood type stories. The ML is unsettling and you can tell that page 1 is the happiest we’ll see our MC, in a struggling household, with a wonderful mom and great friends, and everything after is downhill. I can almost taste the misery , we’re in for a ride, folks.
I’m not sure where the story is going, but the anime and the few chapters after give me excitement. I want to see how this one man will bring peace to this world and whether the narrator’s claim that Aouteru is a legendary strategist is true or hot air. I have high expectations for this.

I think I might be a bit delirious from how much reality tv I've consumed but the psychological component is getting to me. I'm C.R.E.E.P.E.D O.U.T which is weird because you could argue not that much happened. In fact, you could say the first chapter isn't a full chapter. But fuck, it's giving me art deco horror, and I'm here for it!
I was prepared to roll my eyes at the tropey story but this so dam silly, I can’t help but giggle. My smile won’t go away, I’m not sure if this will ever translate to a good romance but as a comedy it’s just perfect
It’s both a large and small tale. Stilling my attention, captivating me in the very moment, it weaves into a timeless classic seamlessly with not a single stutter. Absolutely beautiful.

About efforts never betray, I looked at the story and it does seem a while back I read it(left a rating and everything) but I must’ve blocked it from my mind. I took a once over because of your suggestion and I think I have an inkling why. It’s genuinely anxiety inducing, although despite how well written the psychological mindscape was of the characters, especially that of our MC, I think it left a bitter taste in my mouth. I get the realism of the ending and I accept it but I can’t really quite stomach the cruelty… The imagery and the rough lines, the way we never do see the father’s face because he’s perceived by our Mc in such a way where he feels he’s this amalgamation of fears that he can’t reason or understand is such a wonderful presentation of the undercurrent of hysteria, trauma and fear.
