this story values friendship as much as romance, and the cast has very distinct personalities. each character has a unique internal world, everyone feels like a person and not a flat archetype.
no caricatures here. each character that started off with an impression of an archetype actually is a complex human being with reasons behind why they act a certain way (mean girl, supposedly boy-obsessed, etc). friendship is a main focus. also bonus for a trans character that the author treats with love and care.
very complexly written character relationships. friendship with the side characters is shown, but not as focused as the other works in this series. the cast belonging to the main dramatic beats is very well written. but even the supporting cast that aren't the focus still fills up the world with life.
more mature story than the others.
