Story-wise, I thought he'd be a detective but in Murim. He is, however, his cheats are too OP in the sense that the answers to the cases were practically given to him. Not much investigation was shown nor the searching for clues. It's straightforward but I can see why it'd fall below expectations if one is expecting solving crimes.

MC's ability shortens his lifespan whenever it is used so he's training as a martial artist, too.
