The 1st part does show disturbing abuse (because it began when Jack was a child), but the 2nd part is different when he enters the military as an adult, he has a great time after a sadist discovers he's a masochist. Even if it started out coercive, it's S&M pseudo-rape, he really enjoys it and they satisfy his frustrations.
