Stories about found family isn’t new within fantasy genres. What makes this more refreshing, and separates itself from the others, is the circumstance the protagonist faces to find her father. The story does tend to fall into some cliche, but the pacing, heartfelt moments and misunderstandings makes up for all of it.
This is genuinely a masterpiece. Some villainess isekai don’t really expand on the thoughts and experiences of the ‘original villainess’. This one does and in a beautifully heartbreaking way. This isn’t a revenge story for the transgressor. It is a revenge story by the transgressor for the original.
The horror and supernatural elements of the story is fantastic. It goes through different cases of spirit possessions and reveals the circumstances that lead to the spirits’ vengeful path. There is an overarching story and mystery that is slowly revealed throughout. The main character also tries to do what she believes is right. However, if it goes against the ethical practices of being a shaman, is she really on the right path?
In the Isekai genre, readers would automatically assume that the protagonist will be someone stepping into a new world. It’s not the case with this story. We step into the perspective of someone existing in the world and has to deal with the horrors of her future. It also delves into the topic of forgiveness (of family) and whether it should be deserved. A lovely read.
