A great romance that starts with some over the top comedy and goofiness before you get invested in the relationship and your emotions are tied into a skipping rope for the author to flip around and jump over as they wish
More than a romance, the protagonist is skillfully written as he connects with others and grows as a person. The romance itself is written maturely and incredibly realistic for a bl (with it's cutesy moments that fit it's art style) which fits the themes tackled, a 10.
Possibly one of my favourite manga of all time. Through the sports-tournament genre, Kaneshiro manages to create a psychological thriller through fantasy-like imagery and stylized art which really makes one feel the despair and triumph the characters do as their philosophies clash- all desperate to use each other to grow in order to become the best soccer player
The author truly manages to explore different ideologies and the way the characters change through the soccer techniques in depth. A 10
Possibly for a niche audience: for those with an appreciation for art. Blue Period starts out through Yaguchi entering the foreign world of art which forces him to reflect on his own identity or lack thereof to find it. The art is gorgeous as the author captures the intense focus and the struggle in attempting to be create art. The themes Yaguchi receives for making art become a puzzle for him to solve with the perspectives of those around him which develops his own character, a 10.
From the earliest chapters I'm certainly intrigued, and the art style is beautiful. The thrill and tension the author creates with a morally grey protagonist is right up my alley.
What I'm looking forward to seeing is the protagonist's character development on regards to the crime and the love interest/s.
A big hit or miss would be how the (spoilers)
