Out of the three installations of the series, this provides it with depth that makes it worth rereading. Of course, the other parts are still enjoyable, but this one feels more mature and heartfelt, and even makes what happens in the other parts more impactful. And it’s always nice to read about something you typically won’t hear about, such as people who write erotica for a living.

One of Harada’s more palatable bizarre works. This contains a whole bunch of stuff you’ll see in Harada works, only that they aren’t taken as seriously. The two characters (Kasuya and Kuzuya) make a very funny but also somewhat sweet pair. I always look forward to a new chapter, and I also always dread that something really bad will suddenly happen typical of Harada’s works lol

Adorable story about sex friends turned serious partners. And the art is just gorgeous.

Although at times it may feel too sentimental and cliche, Deadlock provides a very good look into prison life in the US, as well as the state of its prison system. The underlying yakuza plot line may be a bit hard to follow, but that doesn’t stop it from being an enjoyable read and even adds something new to to the star-crossed lovers trope. Absolutely love the scene when they first see each other for who they really are! I couldn’t help picturing this as a movie the whole time I was reading it. It’s definitely like one of those cult classics you just religiously watch over and over!

I think it would’ve been better if this had been longer, with more time to develop each character’s story, because the potential for this to be a great classic was definitely there. Still, despite leaving a lot to be desired, I really enjoyed reading every chapter, and every character was likeable enough to want to continue reading until the end. This is part of a series, but I didn’t have much trouble enjoying it despite not having read the other works it’s a part of.

Definitely one of Harada’s best works. Fucked up, but with just enough to make you feel just a little bit relieved by the end.

Because the writing was so good, I expected more from the resolution towards the end. Nevertheless, still a great read.
