you cant make an lgbt manga list without including this masterpiece. our dreams at dusk: shimanami tasogare is an amazing manga centered around a closeted high school boy who tries to commit suicide but stops when he sees a woman jump from the window off a building. this isn't exactly a romance (though there are three romantic subplots that are very well done) but it's more of an exploration of the different experiences of queer people intertwined with some magical realism.
beautiful story about a gay boy who turns into a monster and learns to love his true self in that monstrosity (no romance)
this is one of the most heartwarming manga ive read. a friendship (maybe something more? ;) between a closeted gay teen and the friend of the guy he likes. this manga starts off fairly lighthearted but does get angstier as it goes on.
this is beautiful. this can be seen as a very typical shoujo plot where the main character helps a girl get together with his friend but ends up falling for her instead but it's much more than that. it's extremely well done, with all characters having a lot of depth and development throughout the manga. if you want to read this solely for the romance well... all i can say is you wont be disappointed ;) after all this is a list (mostly) for the gays~
coming of age story about exploring your identity, so sweet and heartwarming.
this manga is so adorable. there's really not much to say other than its cute high school boys falling in love and learning to accept that which they find strange or weird.
cw: there is a brief mention of an adult man dating a minor and he makes multiple appearances throughout the manga so please keep that in mind:(
a story told from the point of view of a gay man's little brother. absolutely one of the most realistic portrayals of coming out, and it's a very sad but heartwarming read.
this manga. is. so. slow. but i love it anyway. story of a college senior and his cold and stonefaced junior. it's so refreshing and adorable, even though it does get frustrating at times because its misunderstandings piled on top of eachother. still amazing and definitely worth a read.
if it's too long for you, this manhua is actually a side story to an equally good, much shorter, and less slowburn manhua called guang xiang :)
very educational manga about two nonbinary high school students that makes you think what gender is and how it's not just two opposite poles, its a spectrum. it's really short and worth reading esp to educate yourself if you arent well-versed in these topics.
this manga made me so incredibly emotional. it's about two high school boys who meet up after school to play the "white line game" and make up stories on why they have to walk on a white line and eventually their venture into adulthood and all the complications that come with it. the ending made me cry happy tears, this is just so amazing. there's also a live action drama out for this so if you would like to check that out~~
cw: slight nsfw but not too explicit
