Very first anime I've ever watched. The little girl still remembers, cries, and smiles from the memories. This is the very first anime series I watched in the States. It's about a normal school girl that is chosen to be a magical warrior and fight against the forces of evil!
A really long standing series starting the 1980s. Despite its age, a lot of people still know and remember Dragon Ball. A really great series if you want to get introduced with Martial Arts/traditionally Shounen style stories.
This is a good introduction to shoujo style stories- especially the concept of magical girls. Sakura is a girl that found some magical cards in her home and they all escaped! Now she has to take responsibility and capture them all! The series is in the same universe as xxxholic and tsubasa:reservoir chronicle. This is a lot more cute, less drama, and a lot of wholesome goodness! And cute crushes! I'm taling Sayoran Li, of course!
This is one of my first mangas I ever read and bought for myself. As a young shoujo fan growing up, I was fascinated about a strong female figure- and in this case, it was a female thief of justice, just like Arsene Lupin, who def made more of an impression on me than Sherlock Holmes. It's very cute. The series is complete, although it hasn't been completely uploaded to mangago. Let's just say it's a happy ending. *wink*
This one is a very old and long tale of romance. But it's not just any romance. It's bromance! Nah, I kid. It's Shounen Ai so there's not any sex but this is one of the very first ones in the 90s that had this element of Shounen ai. The only other exception I know of being Card Captor Sakura, with the main character's older brother and his best friend, Yuki.
One of my first long time crushes- Natsume Hyuga. Someone who is only kind to his friends, making fun and poking fun at his love. I actually told my sister i disliked strawberries, just like Natsume, lul. It's a cute story to start off. But don't be fooled! There are emotional moments and heartbreak, lots of tears towards the latter parts of the story. And I gotta say, this is one of the stories that taught me about love-- how intense the emotion can be.
Oh boy another emotionally impactful story. Watase Yuu is a genius when it comes to crafting a beautiful fantasy world and playing with your emotions, whether good or bad. Be prepared for a bittersweet love story filled with adventure, kindness and friendship!
Very few people don't know this one. I read Naruto when I was in elementary school myself. I got into Naruto because he grows up as a lonely child and there are elements which people can relate to no matter which stage of life you're in. Also ninjas and jutsus! What's not to like? It was all the rage back in the day.
I think this manga is one of the first times a manga tried the Isekai theme. This one is a historical manga- taking place during the bronze age, shifting towards the iron age. I can't say all parts of it is historically accurate but it is a masterpiece with an articulate storyline and memorable characters- some who did exist in history. Strongly recommend!
Inuyasha was all the rage in my day. Everything from the anime, the anime music, the characters themselves. It was pretty rare then for anyone not to fall in love with a dog-eared half human man child. The story starts with a young high school girl who is pulled into a well and falls into a world of feudal japan! Also demons exist.

Gegege no kitarou?
Added to the list! Gonna read to remember what this manga was about soon.
Apologies to anyone who sees changes in this time and time again. I am very slowly adding in updates and adding in more stories in here for anyone who might be interested in reading more nostalgic, older series of manga. Please let me know if there's any mangas I forgot to add in, and please enjoy!
