This is bara, and some people can't go past the art style of very buff men, because graphism is important and also determines genre; bara isn't a genre everybody CAN read. This is as simple as that. Everybody has their own tastes.

If that story were illustrated in the BL genre, with young and handsome pretty guys, we would rush to read it and get its beautiful message.

I get it, certain manga has turned me off because of its art style too, and I've also found some "bara" is comical and imho lackluster. But in this instance, there's an awful indication from being turned away from this kind of artwork that acknowledges an important message like prejudice against gay men because of a gay man's art style. You've implied that you would only be interested if the portrayal of these gay men are handsome pretty boys, which primarily appeal to women as they are written/drawn by women. By doing this, you're fetishizing gay men for the eyes of straight women. I implore you to look past the art style that doesn't sit well with you and read it through to the end, and try to emphasize with the author's story. The core message is to be open-minded and understand the prejudice that gay men have to live through because of who they love: don't be like the parents who reject him.

By drawing such buff men, that author already directed their work for a certain audience --> public who loves buff and hairy men (mostly gay men). If it was a book, only written with no drawings, I could maybe read it, but since it's a comics with graphism that plays a huge part in it, it doesn't please me enough to pursuit the reading.

You have the right to like it all you want. But those who like this should also learn to accept and respect the tastes of others who don't like it, and let them complain if they want. Comment sections are for that.

It's more of a problem if your previous comment was to imply that the core message was completely made redundant because the art style doesn't suit you. I'm glad to know that isn't the case with your recent comment. Art and storytelling can definitely be separated.

The problem with the original poster's comment is that they have implied that the only element that matters is that the men must look hot and sexy to them, as if that overwrites what the story is trying to portray. It's a shame when personal aesthetic takes priority over a potentially important story, especially when it comes to the fine line of fetishising gay men for straight women. I agree with you though, it's fine to not like the artwork, as long as the initial story is acknowledged and appreciated. If I can vouch for this particular bara a wee bit further, there was no sexual content at all in this (which admittedly is rare for bara lol) so it's a pretty nice and easy diamond in the rough story about two men in love in a narrow-minded society. Definitely worth looking past the buff hairy characterizations, and like the MC says, he's just a normal ordinary person. You don't have to find the men personally attractive to enjoy the story.

I've browsed rapidly the images and have seen the problematic described in this story, I think that if one can go over the bara graphism, yeah it can be a fine read.

I might show ignorance too, since I never really looked at bara or tried to deepen my lecture about this genre to the point to meet "gems" in this.
It's good to see that bara isn't all about sex between buff men and that there are actually some good storylines amongts it.
