Oh wow I love the way you colored her skin and the eyes too. It is beautiful. Areas where it could have been better are the right arm and hand (from my perspective). The hair is good but it can be improved. Taken into consideration your age, you are on the right path and you have a lot of potential.
I hope that you'll take time to see tutorials about how to make realistic pencil portraits and ballpoint portraits. If you love drawing, you should start now and make room for it. I wish if I had the means to start earlier i.e. when I was your age, so take the advice from a senior, start building your techniques and learning more about drawing right now. Hence when you become older, you'll be able to do more and more with your drawing.
Good luck Merry (Y)

Well, I'll be 15 in August, so I hope when I reach 20 I'll be able to make wonders.
But honestly, I'm not a fan of portraits. I like the manga style better. How do I say this...It's more pleasant for me to use this style. After all, my dream is to be a mangaka and in manga the charactes don't look like real people. Let's just say I'm in my element when I draw in 'manga style' , so realistic portraits are kind of contradicting my taste, but I'll follow your advice and see some more tutorials (●'◡'●)ノ

Oh I see your point of view but for me, drawing comics is just a part of knowing how to draw. Personally, I want to be able to do everything which can be done as an aspiring painter. I don't limit myself to drawing comics nor do I limit myself to drawing portraits but I believe given the fact that I am a huge fan of Seinen mangas, that mangakas who know how to draw per se deliver more realistic comis (e.g. Rainbow, Hideout, Heat ... to name only a few).
Right now you think that you only want to draw shoujo/ yaoi but what if you wanted more in the future?
It is better to be prepared for something which you don't yet have instead of having something for which you aren't prepared. What will you do five years or even ten years from now if you decide that you want to draw realistic drawings but aren't prepared for it?
If you have the ability to expand your wings, don't stuck them in a cell. Expand them first and then specialize in something you really like not the other way around. hahahaha ლ(´ڡ`ლ)

This might be off-topic, but as much as I like shoujo and yaoi manga, I want to draw shounen (● ̄(エ) ̄●) That's because when I watch anime, I prefer shounen (like Owari no Seraph, Psycho-Pass etc). I really like action, misteries and plot twists (●'◡'●). Anyway, I'm aware of what you said, but if I were to speak my mind I'd say I don't have enough confidence in me and my skills. But I know as time goes by, I'll be able to improve, but... I just feel that time is too short and I won't have enough time to achieve my dream if I try other styles. Ugh but I also hate this mentality that stops me from doing what you sugested. Drawing is such a precious activity to me that I fear I'll lose it... It's like between me and my dream is a mental wall that says ''Stay away, coward!'' or ''You'll never reach the other side'' and this makes me rush things and so, I feel like refusing the chance to expand my wings . Sorry if it sounded stupid, but that's what I felt...

No it doesn't sound stupid at all ... oh well, if you think that your dream is to be a mangaka, and not an artist, you should then go only for that. I just thought that it is very easy to be a mangaka when a person is an artist. Every artist can become a mangaka but the other way around isn't necessarily true.
I believe that the difference between you and I is that I already have experience in being self-taught. It has become a habit, a "second nature". Hence I tend to believe that anything is achievable if it is broken down into pieces and reduced to its fundamental rules. Nowadays there are tens of books which explain in details all kinds of arts. I've already built my collection of those, I'll start my journey soon towards discovering how much I can achieve of my dream. The thing is that I am already visualizing myself as a winner ... Oh I won't expand this further ... perhaps it was too willful of me to drag you into my dream. If your dream is to be a mangaka then I'll encourage you and wish you all the best (● ̄(エ) ̄●)

So it's ok if I do all I can to be a winner in only one domain? This really makes me feel better. Thank you! Lil-san, you're really an awesome person~ I'll put all my heart in being incredible at the one thing I adore the most (๑•ㅂ•)و✧ But to achieve that, I'll also follow your advice because drawing a manga demands more than only drawing the characters. You need to know how to use colours, how to draw backgrounds AND you also have to create an attractive story. A manga is a great and fulfilling creation and that's why I want to be a mangaka ヾ(☆▽☆) And I wish you all the best to achieve your dream! Oh, and I'd be really happy to see some of your drawings/ paintings~

Yes it is all right. A person can only do what a person can bear to do. If you don't want to expand your wings or so to speak, there is no sense in forcing you to do so or else you'll be unhappy. If you become unhappy, it is like killing your own dream so the expenditure backfires on you.
But the trick is if you choose only one area, you have to be #1 at it. You have to excel and be creative. No procrastination, defeatism, or underestimating oneself are allowed. Sometimes the only words of encouragement you'll hear will be coming from you, so encourage yourself well. Be your own team.
Quote ~ Go for the moon. If you don't get it, you'll still be heading for a star ~
As for the matter of seeing my own drawings, you have to wait. You see when I finished school I had two dreams, I had to put one on hold so I can achieve the first one and now I am going after my other dream. Right now I am catching up the train of my second dream. I am reaching my hand for the rear balcony. By hard work, I'll take a special seat on that train until then you have dear lady to take your place in the picket line.
I know that I tend to talk big words but it is only happening because I am 100% sure that I go beyond my very best to make my big words come true. ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄

Your confidence is something that makes talking to you really pleasant, you know? (=・ω・=) I feel like people around you are always cheered up by you.
I'll constanly keep in mind your advice, so I'll try my hardest to be #1.
Well, I'll be waiting in the picket line until that train will bring you to your dream. Have a safe trip! *waving a handkerchief*

hahaha No need to wave the handkerchief ... I am not migrating you know. I'll be back hahaha .
Well actually you'll be surprised to know that I am discreet in real life - cheerful of course but I learned that in order to succeed at something it is better to be discreet in order to prevent antagonisms. In real life, there are always the naysayers who'll try to put you down or profiteers who'll try to monetize your enthusiasm and canalize it towards achieving their own dreams without pain or hard work.
It is easier to talk to you about the things I am passionate about than doing it with someone from my surrounding because there is a physical distance which separates us. I call this "hold a (virtual) bat and keep *almost* everyone from your surrounding at distance" hahaha
Like I said, most of the time the only words of encouragement a person will hear are the ones he tells to himself ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
So I always hold the pom poms and cheer for myself. If there is a good person who needs to be cheered, I'll always hold the pom poms for that person too. You never know ... your words may actually be the right catalyst a given person needs to push himself/ herself those extra miles. But I'll only do that for a good person, if he/ she's mean I won't bother, and I can't be fooled, I can recognize a mean person a mile away even if we're separated by a physical barrier (=・ω・=)

It's perfect :)) I think it resembles yamamoto kotetsuko's work a bit and it's soooo cuutte and gorgeous :)

Merry June 27, 2015 6:27 am

Ha ha! As I was drawing her, I was thinking the same things~ Thanks!
And I think the slight resemblance is in the eyes because I like the simple style Yamamoto Kotetsuko uses, so I tried to draw them a bit like her.
