It's been a year and still I haven't forgotten this anime and manga. I can't forget this it's always in my mind and always make me sad.....I really love the story line but not the ending..I totally cried my eyes out when eiji hid ash picture and the meaning of Akira and ash are the same....."Dawn" well I'm going to cry now while reading the manga and listening to sad music
he did not choose to die. the meaning was lost in translation, but the wound was fatal. he would've eventually succumbed to it, and went to the library to read the rest of eiji's letter. despite all the near-death experiences, his cause of death is so insignificant, but eiji's words, that his soul will always be with him, grant him salvation and a last dose of happiness, and that's why he was smiling in the end. it's an incredibly bittersweet ending
made a mistake reading this manga... I read this wayyy before the anime was even announced and just happen to stumble across it today and had the urge to just comment here. I've successfully clouded all my memories about this manga and even convinced myself to make the end a happy ending because of how the ending affected me when I was just like 13 years old. Yeah I really liked the ending where Ash and Eiji runaway together and live in the countryside and grow old together. Yes thats how it ended... (the copium is real but just leave me be ;) )
