Obata-sensei has spoiled me with stories like Deathnote and Hkaru no Go so I thought he would only draw for good authors, but I was wrong.
This story has some of the poorest character designs and development I have ever read and although the premise driving the plot is sound, the execution could use a lot of work. The saddest part is that the characters have bad characteristics that the author blatantly try to force the readers to view as good traits.
Speaking of Ral Grado and the Phoenix Girl. If they had a child together, what would the baby look like? Would that child come to the human world? There really needs to be a sequel to this.

It is not a bad ending. It could have been better, but it could also have been so much worse. At least Ral and Grado stayed together.

An awesome manga but the battles were short. Loved the ending even if it was a bit sad ^-^
