My eyes hurt from the tears and I had to stop halfway threw to take a break after the dog got cancer

This manga is from 2004, it makes me happy to see how treatment for dogs and cats' cancer has evolved since then.

I don't care if Asai forgives her for her rude behavior, she's close-minded, lives in her own world, and bathed in her self-pity for the entire manga.

I understand that Hitomi had no friends and she was lonely, but she shouldn't try and abandon Ai when she knows that Ai will become a guide dog. That's literally what Ai was trained for, and yet she was selfish and even tried to hurt Ai. She is a terrible person, but it gets better. Chapter 2 is a damn doozy to me.

How does Hitomi not even know what guide dogs are used for in the first place. She's 19 years old, but still acts like a selfish, self-pitying brat. When Ai comes home after 11 years, she's completely rude to the previous owner and Hitomi just downright expects pampered treatment from her dog after being gone for so long. And of course, Ai doesn't give her immediate recognition (Because oh what do you know, Ai was with Asai for 11 years). Her response? Be rude to Asai, and gives Ai a walk outside when Asai is supposed to visit, which, since they're outside for so long that Ai gets a damn heat stroke.

She then goes on to scream at Asai when he tries to comfort Ai not to touch him and that he replaced Ai with a another dog saying that he "used Ai for his own convenience". How selfish and ignorant can this girl be? Pretty ignorant and selfish obviously, obviously enough to get her dog sick and blame it all on Asai although it was Hitomi's own decision to stay outside for half the damn day. I'm really surprised Asai didn't slap her since he can detect where she is. Oh by the way, Asai is.. Blind! Which Hitomi doesn't know because she refused to think that he has any ailments because "He has another dog! He only uses dogs for his own convenience!" Yeah, and so does your selfishness. Let me just say this Hitomi, you don't know the first rule when it comes to people having guide dogs because you only wanted a dog so you wouldn't be lonely, not to make it become a guide dog. She doesn't even know their situations, automatically thinking I guess that all people who have guide dogs are terrible (That's how close-minded this girl is and how much she revolves around herself).

Hell, even after she learns the truth and feels "bad", she still tells him off in the beginning of Chapter 3 because he fells bad for Ai. Again, selfish b****. Then they just continue to care for Ai when they know she's suffering. I get that people love dogs and hate to see them suffer, but Hitomi just straight up let her suffer. I know people are against Euthanization, but when your dog is suffering like Ai, I'd put them to sleep because I would never want to see a dog suffer like that. But Hitomi still takes care of her even when Ai is suffering and nothing is helping the dog. Props to her for caring for Ai, but when Ai's bone thin and puking maybe you should put them to sleep.

All in all, as you can tell, I don't like Hitomi. She's selfish all the way until the end of the manga, revolves around her own world even when people and pets around her are suffering (Oh but let's just forget all of that because Hitomi has no friends and is lonely but Asai is blind and has a constant fear of being killed because he can't see but again, forget that because Hitomi has no friends), and she's ridiculously close-minded. Sorry that this was long but damn she's annoying.

This is the first manga I openly cried while reading. There is just something so real about all the emotions and the story, it didn't feel fake at all. It may make most people cry, but it is genuinely sweet. Overall, its a fantastic read. :)

My dog tempo is a black labrador. He is 14 and a half years old. He is still very energetic during a walk and when it's time to eat. He is still a grandpa even if sometimes he acts like a puppy. He nearly died twice once of piroplasmosis when he was 13 and once last years of larynx paralysis (he had to be operated) and now it's like he is young again, he recovered. In summer he is going to go with us to england. He is very loved by my family. I had him since i was 7 years old and i am the closest to him. I love him very much. I now that when it is time i will be as sad as the girl in this story but also very happy because i know he lived a very good life with us. I will always see him as someone precious to me, part of my family. (=・ω・=)
