The constant drama aside, my adult brain is reading this VERY differently. I cannot get over the subtle disrespect Satonaka gets as a short Top. He's presented as the most perverted and dangerous out of all of them. He thinks his crush won't ever return his feelings so he'll just force him but all his attempts are just brushed off and presented as funny. He's not a real threat because 'short'. In spite of the sculptor having no respect for boundaries or someone else's relationship, he gets a happy ending while the short Top doesn't. Not that I particularly care about any of the side characters getting a happy ending, but I do wonder.
Randomly decided to reread this while slowly collecting my already read list of mangas (since everything got deleted due to mangago's situation ;-;) and despite being a product of it's time, there's a reason it was one of my favorites when I was 15.
Even now 10 years later I love the attention to detail on the importance of preparation and how it's not easy being a bottom. I love Shunpei and despite Fumi being pushy and dramatic at times it's not too bad, after all he's just a teen getting with his long time crush.
On the other hand, the president weirded me out and the side couples didn't interest me as much as it did when I first read it. At the end of the day it's an old yaoi and they really liked having a straight up criminal side character and way too many couples in mangas back then so it's ok ╮(￣▽￣)╭ also I remember how I used to hate the younger sister so much for cockblocking, but now I see that's a great depiction of a teenege girl who has no contact with real gay people and only see them on yaoi lmaaao kids are really stupid and confusing sometimes man.
While it's not nearly as good as some of the stories that are on my favorites list these days, this manga holds a special place in my heart ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ﾉ~

I'm re-reading after a very long time... MAN, THAT IS MY ROMAN EMPIRE. I'm surprised how many things I remember! And I love the uke so much, damn, boy knew what boundaries were before everyone else! And he forces his high-drama boyfriend to talk. LIKE MAN, YOU GO! I really can't believe how many things I remember from it! Literal pages and lines are saved somewhere in my brain! No wonder I once saved it as one of my top faves! I love how they each have distinct character. Of course there are some tropes that were popular (and sometimes still popular in yaoi), but heck this one really paved the way and tried to introduce some things that aren't present in even many of today's mangas!
EXACTLY! OMG, I was reminiscing about this masthapiece and excited that someone thinks like me. YEAH. It is quite shocking how a work from such long ago was able to ESTABLISH AND REITERATE what preparations are required for gay sex unlike just sticking it in and hoping for the best with no shit coming along or severe injury. GOD! How many works are with that bs? OMFG. Shunpei is so emotionally mature and brave to let go of his insecurities little by little to give his lover reassurance on their bond. He was not the usual weak crybaby waiting to be saved by his seme. He alone thought about his feelings and took action to not let a breakup happen, even petrified but strong willed to talk it out with his lover.
I get why some ppl find it weird but come on man..it's old yaoi manga... Ofc it has some questionable elements but I personally still had fun reading... Mainly cuz I love shunpei.....
Fumi pisses me off. He has no respect for Shunpei's boundaries and he's so forceful sometimes. Like instead of giving Shunpei time to come to terms with his feelings, he tries to rush it and demands that he fully gives himself into the relationship. The sculptor is such a weird creep and the glasses guy as well. But anyway I wish they had actually switched i really to see Fumi bottom
All the characters in this were damn near trash or entirely dogshit. the fuckass president, the disgusting sculptor, the creepy sister, Fumi and even Shunpei sometimes. the later seasons felt like ragebait with the amount of bullshit popping up. Tho it was a decent enough read lololol
