I've watch the anime of it bec I missed it and yep it's makes me cringe with all those cliche scenes but I still love it haha. Bring back memories when I'm still young. The feels.

hmmm for me much better start with genbu kaiden cause that's were all started,and you can skip byakko (even though she's the second pristess) the reason it hasn't even finish yet they only have 5 chapters as of now,,,for that you can read fushigi yuugi..and you don't have worry whichever you read first just enjoy the adventure ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ﾉ~

The story was amazing, unique and romantic. I remember the heart pounding moment of waiting for the anime to start; hoping my mother won't remember to be a b**** and turn off the tv (sadly the anime is definitely not PG and it was shown late at night). I would love to watch it all over again but I don't think my older self can stand Miyaka anymore (a very bad case of damsel in distress syndrome with endless crying and uselessness). I actually preferred Yui even when I was younger (pretty and smart) too bad her story line got twisted due to circumstances. Would have loved her yo have a separate storyline like genbu and biyaku.
I just started this anime a week ago, and i didn't regret watching it. I only regret not having the opportunity to know this anime when I was younger. The story will always get stuck in my head, just as the characters that are unforgettable, Thank you Yuu Watase-sensei for creating such a masterpiece. It is not just a "simple" shoujo, it is way more than that. The story of every characters is touching. If you don't know this anime/mange, I fully recommend it (the only thing I don't recommend you is to watch the 3rd OAV who will destroy the beautiful ending of OAV 2, I stopped watching it at 10 mins of the ep, ....)
So this is like the 12th time I've read this and I am CRYING LIKE A BABY. I watched the anime when I was a kid and I watched it again recently and I swore to myself not to cry because now I am an adult but HAHAHA NOPE You are still a baby and you will cry with EACH DEATH LIKE IT'S THE FIRST TIME.

I wouldn't say cringe, but it's true that it has it's fair share of cliche. Let's not forget it's been written in the 90'. (▰˘◡˘▰)

Genbu's story is sad compare to Miaka, but thanks to Miaka's story, I've known the story of Takiko which is the Best for me.
