I wouldn't have liked this even if she had been a boy. She's the embodiment of the protagonist that never freaking learns, and always needs her love interest to save her/fix her mistakes/generously forgive her. (Yaoi has this as well, but it's a lot less common because [I suppose] the target audience is older, the characters are older, and it lends itself to other drama hooks).
There's some good, heart rending drama in there - quite a lot. I was only able to read the first and last books, I had to skip in between. So it touched me, and at the same time I just wanted to punch my monitor because EVERY hardship the main character screws up, and then the love interest has to fix things. "I need to be less selfish/self absorbed," is a lesson that really shouldn't need to be learned THAT MANY TIMES.
This isn't bad. It's perfect for a certain age group, but it's a "theme" that really, really pushes my buttons. So if this is also one of your buttons, steer clear Otherwise, you might really enjoy it. Sometimes you just need a fix of drama :)
I probably would have loved this, if it had been Yaoi (and the challenges hadn't been so consistent). Supernatural stuff is fun for me.
