Tai's manga / #Romance(154)

this is like a modern fairytale in the vein of Tim Burton (but less goth..y) and Guillermo del Toro (but less grotesque). To give an idea of the tone. And as for The story itself, you’ll see elements of tarzan, frankenstein, the shape of water and to a lesser extent pinocchio (he just wants to be a Real Boy! This can actually apply two characters in the main cast...) and dare i say a smidge of edward scissorhands? I do want to be clear though, its small elements that add a sense of what kind of story you’re in without feeling derivative or cliche at all. Perhaps the greatest achievement of this comic though is it somehow brought out serious pathos from a character that is a Talking Bird. (anyway i loved this so much pls read it)

super secret? More like super CUTE! Just very sweet, heartfelt, romantic and Hilarious. And like ghost wife it starts to embrace a hint of melancholy in the back half that works rly well (without losing its sense of humor). And unlike ghost wife this is an unequivocal happy ending that feels very wrapped up but not in an obnoxious Perfect Bow way. that said the side character's endings were perhaps a bit Too open ended. more in some cases than others, and thats my only gripe tho i understand why the author chose to do this. but otherwise this a Perfect friends to lovers romance with a really cute fantastical twist involving werewolves, witches, fox demons and vampires!

started out weird and intriguing and ended with me in TEARS. Very funny but with an underpinning of melancholy that becomes more pronounced in the later chapters, genuinely creepy and the art is...an acquired taste. Basically if u like ito junji and sweet highschool romance with a big side of goofy comedy then i strongly rec giving this a try.

is the anime better? yes. (its more ambitious for one). but this manga still slaps and its still hella gay. so A+ (there's some big gaps in my memory though so i only gave it 4 out of 5 but its a 5 out of 5 in my Heart)

noisy short boy and noisy tall girl fall in love. hijinks ensue. i laughed. it was cute. read it or dont. lol

i read this so many times in my Youth. its such a teen soap but damn was it addictive af. (and their chemistry? outrageous). its tragic but it does have a happy ending fyi. massive TW for childhood s*xual abuse tho.

first half is from her perspective and its great. proper shoujo hs romance shenanigans. the second half is from his and is a melodramatic MESS. also that ending with their daughter having a thing for their adult best friend? YIKES

the anime is better tbh

i dont remember 90 percent of the story lmao. i mean i remember the big dramatic bits? anyway ill watch the anime reboot some day and that will prob jog my memory. i wish it could just skip ahead to the back half tho

i read this like 10+ years ago. i was so into it. but the drama lied! in the manga all the guys are hideous except shin. in the drama u get tons of cute boys. the DECEPTION. (also no romance in the drama, lame.)
