Mimi's manga / #multiple stories(23)

Chou to Hana no Kankeisei

Complete | Akabeko | 2017 released

I really liked the art style but the main couple were probably the least interesting characters out of the 3 stories. It wasn't a bad story to read and the characters weren't unlikable, but I felt the story that had the other two getting engaged was the best out of the 3. I also really wish the two delivery guys got either another chapter or more of a story in their chapter mainly because they were also likable but their story ended too quickly.

I couldn't really get into this enough to finish it. I never really liked this style of art either and the 1st story I had to force myself to read. Not sure if the other stories in this are better but I'm just not interested enough to check them out.

Masaka Kore ga Koi Nante

Complete | HAKUTOU Noriko | 2000 released

"This is sooo stuuupid..." I can't tell you how many times I mutter that while reading this. It is definitely a product of 2010, that's much for sure. The only story I kind of liked was the 1st one since that couple didn't seem to disgust or worry me. Other than that you have two incest stories (what the fuck) and 2 stories about manipulative and abusive boyfriends (what the fuck).

Kiss Shite Yowamushi-kun!

Complete | tomono kasa | 2014 released

Even though it had a strong Junjo Romantica feel to it I really wanted to read more about the first couple who work at the bookstore. Still very pissed that dude cut his hair but they were pretty interesting to read. The second couple was also interesting and probably had my attention more because of their backstory together. I think this and the chapter with the morphic catboy would have been better if there weren't any sex scenes. Mostly because it felt like it took away from what story we could in a couple of pages and the catboy looked a bit too much like a kid even though he wasn't. I just kina... eh. And you best believe I skipped that chapter with the spirit who's "kid-like in appearance".

Mousouka, Koi o Suru.

Complete | Ayumi Saki | 2013 released

I really liked this art style and I honestly think the main story was really cute when though it the combined 3 chapters the main couple got was too short. Chapter 5 was really nice to see. A little jarring but well written and different from what I'm use to seeing in these BL stories. Update: My old review talked about how chapter 4 was uncomfortable for me and then went on about two teen having sex. I mean, yeah, I rather not read about teens doing it while but I don't think that's enough for me to bitch about so I just removed that part. Still a 3 star book, though.

Motto Musunde, Aite Waya

Complete | narita haruno | 2015 released

Love the art, there were some points in the translation that pissed me off but nothing really horrible to drop or hate this book. While I do think the story was fine, it didn't really leave me wanting to read more about this couple. Those *clap* bonus *clap* chapters *clap* felt like they dragged on way too long. Like, the manga ended 4 times already.

I really wasn't here for this translation. I don't know if the original Japanese was also this cheesy, robotic, fanfiction from 2010 but that's what the translation made it feel and it made it a slug to read through. The main couple wasn't really that interesting to me since their only personality trait was this "I'm rich/I'm poor" one-dimension dynamic that got old quick. The couple in chapter 5 was just as boring. It started out with promise but ended too soon and dull. The only characters I loved and wanted to actually read more about was the owner of the restaurant and the butler. I'd love for them to have had a better ending and get a whole spin off manga.

Renai-rubi no Tadashii Furikata

Complete | Ogeretsu Tanaka | 2015 released

I was so put off in the beginning because of the art style. I didn't really like it that much and it kind of disinterest from continuing, but, honestly the first couple/story ended up being my most liked? I was worried about the tragic and bullying tags this had and thought it as gonna be one of those "character bullies the one they love" kind of thing. It wasn't that completely but I still was kinda 50/50 about the characters and stories. By the end I did end up liking one person. The only one that mattered, the reason I'm going to go down this hellhole of a spiderwebbed series-Natsuo. He is so innocent... I love him... so much. The second story was still "eh" but ok. I enjoyed it a lot more but I think that was because I was confused. I didn't know this was the third book in a series yet, btw. It wasn't as sad as I wished it was compared to the previous story, though. Speaking of sad! I did cry at the end of chapter 5. Thank you for giving me that, that's all I wanted from that couple.

Katekyo!

Complete | moegi yuu | 2008 released

Oh MAN do I wanna scream. I really need a stressed facepalm emoji for books like these. First off, the obvious ear fetish isn't my thing but that's whatever. I can live with that. The student/teacher relationship isn't my thing. In fact, it has me on edge because I know anyone at any age can be a student and I was hoping the student(s) would be 20+ in uni... and I was wrong. The 3rd couple has a student who's a 2nd-year high schooler so he'd be a junior who's at least 17. I instantly skipped the rest of that chapter. Another thing I've noticed is the excuse of rape and abuse that's very similar to Junjo Romantica's romantica storyline and it makes me uncomfortable. "Rape to Lovers" is bullshit. Consistently people overstep the other's boundaries despite the other telling them to stop or expressing their anger. I'm tired of this just being overlooked and ok. I'm not even gonna touch the incest thing that pissed me off even more after finding out they're a trans character! Like, bless! You have a trans character! But for it to be the first BL story I've read to have a trans character and their story to involved incest killed me inside. I'm too old for this, it just screams Junjo and it makes me sigh so hard. There's so much wrong in these stories that I couldn't finish this fucking book. The only person with any sense in this manga was Ninose. Also, the use of the word "monopolize" makes me wanna punch a wall.

Bed no Ue no Tengoku

Complete | Nomori Mina | 2000 released

I had very small high hopes for this manga. It has to be because of the weird translation but at the same time I'm sure some of the writing in Japanese would have been questionable still. All the stories, other than the one about the two who work in the game industry, were boring or weird (ch 2) and while I was able to understand the homophobic nature in chapter 4 having a queer character call himself the f slur, everything in chapter 5 was just as uncomfortable. Going back to ch 4, I want more stories that touch on the harassment queer people face and then overcoming that. I can do without the slurs, thanks, but I did feel for that couple and the struggling relationship that was getting abusive to a point that they were in. I wish they had their own book.
