You have to hand it to Ogasawara, her art is incredible, her sex scenes are blow-the-roof-of-your-head-off hot, but her plots are sheer bimbly Crack-a-woo-woo! Um, yeah. This one even has a fetish I've never heard (or dreamed) of. Seriously, I will never look at bonsai the same again. So take a Shinto priest, every fallen archangel in the Kabbalah, a bonsai, a shy uke, and a 1990s rave. Toss them together with lots of BDSM gear, exorcism guns, slaves, butterfly wings and a shit-load of ecstasy and drop them into the sunken city of Atlantis. That should give you an idea ... although I'm sure I missed loads of important things. I was kind of distracted by all the hot bishies having surprise buttsex.

Swords are forged to fight evil spirits, and in these two stories, they take human form, but are not subject to human laws. In the first story, Heian era First Sword, Kazuto defies the Emperor's decree and flies with his lover and creator, Kikyo. In the second story, the weak Goshintou, Shiou is burdened with the task of corrupting the powerful Mikoto, which he attempts through awakening his sensuality, never anticipating this would backfire on him. The artwork is free and full of movement and energy, and the stories are very exciting and quite different from anything I've read before. Loved it!

The artwork is free and full of movement and energy, and the stories are very exciting and quite different from anything I've read before. Loved it!

Every few years, a half-human/half-demon baby is selected to be the vessel for a spirit called The Crow, which is sealed in its body. Evil spirits attack the body of the chosen infant as they chase the Crow, and it causes the person much pain and eventually takes over. We follow the story of Taki, an orphaned boy who is chosen to become the replacement vessel. Sadly, this story has been dropped by the mangaka after Chapter 7, but it is a very interesting and well-told tale until that point.

Confusing and muddled. It starts off as a sweet romance and turns dark, then darker, revealing a horror-filled tragic backstory. Somewhere along the way, there's a suicide pact, and then, ghosts. Good luck making sense of it.

I suppose with the acceptance of homosexuality becoming more widespread, yaoi writers have to turn to different themes to ramp up the illicit "forbidden love" that gives these stories their psychological and sexual tension. Hence the wild-assed reinterpretation of Medieaval Christian Theology. Huzzah! It's downright weird seeing the Lord of the Flies drawn as a smoking hot rebel with a sharp uniform that will satisfy any costume fetish, as opposed to ... well, a pig's corpse in advanced putrefaction, but I'm glad I was spared the traditional depiction circa Heironymous Bosche et al. Still, I have to laugh whenever yaoi mangaka get their hands on something to do with this subject because it's always turned tits-over-teakettles. As usual per Kisaragi Hirotaki, gorgeous art and lots of UST.

Basically a fuck-or-die scenario with 3 different potential partners thrown into the mix: a stoic Chinese Qi Gong Master, an insane brother, and a wacky vampire hunter. Okay, dragons and dragoons are two entirely different things, and this story is filled with strange translations and misspellings that make things very confusing indeed. Since this is one of those zany comedy style of supernatural possession stories, that makes it harder to track what is going on and why. Lots of sex, but the drawing is so jittery over those scenes, you can't see a darned thing, certainly not penes, testes or sphincters. So all the smut with none of the huzzah. But it is sort of different for old-school yaoi.
