It is my favorite manga so I am biased, but this story has a way of telling human stories even with a supernatural twist. A child with horns, a bog-woman, snow that keeps following a grief-stricken man, a tree that lives for hundreds of years. All of these stories are touching, heartbreaking and so human, that they leave you feeling melancholic and nostalgic for something you have never experienced. Highly suggest reading this manga.

Gokurakugai Sanbandori no Ken

Complete | Sano yuto | 2019 released

I fell in love with the rhythm of this story. You can imagine a musical soundtrack to each and every moment quite well. The drawings are stylish, dynamic, and bold. The story is curious, bizarre, and original. The characters are refreshing, vibrant, and simply awesomely written. I suggest this story to everyone as it is not only exquisite written, but a great example of a story that gives you enough answers to go by, but does not suffocate you with heavy plots or too much information. Please, read it and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I!

A beautifully written story that everyone can interpret in their own way. For me, it was about the egoism that is often connected to love, reminding me a bit of the song "The Willow Maid" by the astonishing Erutan, "if not mine, then no one will get you", "best I destroy you myself than let you be destroyed by someone else". For someone else, it might be about the sacrifice of destroying something you love to set it free. For others, the meaning will be different, but the openness for interpretation of this story is what makes it beautiful. The drawings are also breathtakingly splendid.

A bit pretentious, but with interesting artwork to back it up. The story feels a bit like it should be thought-provoking, but as there is no clear message at the end, it seems a bit rushed. The girl noticing the hungry stares of men that devour her mother's chest should lead to something. Maybe we see a grown-up girl with her daughter and the situation is the same, meaning that nothing changes no matter how many years pass. Or the girl wearing baggy clothes and still being catcalled showing that it was not the clothes that attract the attention, but just the sex. Or the grown-up girl checking another girls' breast and understanding that she is acting the same as the men she disliked in her childhood. Something to end the story. But alas, though the story has a lot of potential.

A Silent Greeting

Complete | Kim Young Hee | 2005 released

I think this is an exceptionally beautiful story. The artwork is a masterpiece, oh, how lovely the red of her hair is contrasted with the paleness of her skin. The story itself is tragic. As I see it, the MC waited for her lover to come back from a long war, but her strength left her and Hypnos took her for an endless sleep. Roses, in accordance with Greek mythology, were made out of a lifeless body of a nymph. But the story is open to interpretation and someone can say that she simply fell asleep, knowing that he is safe and close.

Despite me not being a fan of stories depicting relationships between older people in power and their students, this one is alright in my book. The MC is a girl who finds everything boring, she is closed off and everything around her is mundane and tiresome. She has a liking for her professor (a liking that is akin to crossing an item in the to-do list). One day, she finds the prof's phone that contains a dirty secret... And the main protagonist is far from being an innocent and blushing maiden to not take advantage of the situation. I am simply in awe of the characterization of the female lead. She is dimensional, has many sides of her, and is interesting to observe at any moment. Thanks to the amazing Yamashita Tomoko the face of the MC is animated, alive, you can read her emotions and thoughts on each and every panel. The male character is not discussed in detail as the focus is mainly on her. The power dynamic is, of course, twisted and off-balance and I am sure that the BDSM community has some valuable insights on the portrayal of their relationship, but still the story is... original and unexpected, which is rare to find. The story takes bold turns that you do not expect, surprising at each panel in order to deliver a peculiar ending.
