A bad-guy-turned-sheriff is stranded in the desert after his horse dies and is rescued by Toto, a lone Native American, who saves his life and gets him back to town. Fran continues to ride out to see him, and they consummate their relationship on what he believes is his last night, since his past has caught up with him.
