SORA the RunawaY's manga / #Age Gap(9)

Beloved (jaeliu) Manhua

Complete | jaeliu | 2016 released

Stunning watercolour visuals and a story that really leaps off of the page. This is a very eloquently done manhua that leads one to truly contemplate it afterwards and read again. Perfection on a whole other level!

The Rain and the Other Side of You

Complete | Momono Moto, Yukino (Yu-mo) | 2000 released

This is the only manga by Moto that I have come to regret reading. I don't approve of this relationship or the huge age gap. It takes away from the story. Not only that but I have read other yuri manga where the main character falls for the teacher but it is done correctly due to their age gap and the teachers profession. While stories like Beloved and WDTFS pull me in regardless of the age gap because they are legal consensual relationships, this does not do that for me. Luckily, everything else I've read by this Mangaka has been excellent.

It's rare to find a yuri manga that tackles so many subjects in such a short amount of time. Nowadays, it tends to be coming out, coming of age, building a relationship or just showing how their life is and this manga managed to tackle all those subjects and then some. It was surprisingly uplifting, in a way, to see the main character changing so much in such a short amount of time. It takes many women a majority of their twenties to fully mature and know who they are, even with help and she manages to do so before even meeting her twenties. This is a story that leaves out all the cutsie things we have come to know and love from yuri and tackles the real matters at hand. How can I be a better person for myself but also for the person I love most. This shows another side to maturity and it dazzles the reader with all the love, care and life lessons that go into a relationship regardless of if that person is a woman or a man. Excellently crafter work of art. A recommendation I'd make to any yuri fan out there.

This Love That Won't Reach

Complete | tMnR | 2016 released

This is a really excellent manga but it's just so slow... I wish Uta finds real happiness cause I honestly think she can do better than what has happened to her but I love how mature she has become over the course of this manga. Kaoru is finally realizing the ultimate fact that Reiichi doesn't really love her the way he says. I think he's still very hung up on his ex and he definitely has a tendency to lie which has put their relationship in the pits. I personally feel their relationship may end up in divorce but all in all, I hope Uta ends up happy. She's become really admirable in my opinion and I'd love to see her as a full fledged adult with an awesome girlfriend and hopefully that future is possible.

Despite this being a mix, I absolutely loved it. It was rather fun to read and that's not something that can usually be said about mixing lgbt with hetero. The artwork was well off and I loved the character dynamics. Truly thrilling to read and I hope to see more from the author some time soon. Excellent work.

Edit: Originally I was all for this because it was light and gentle. Easy and funny. However, with the progression of their relationship and the adult not saying it shouldn't happen but instead wanting it to happen... Hmm, sorry but I can't condone that. Dropped.

I have no issues with age gaps as long as they're of adult ages. Personally, I'd never date a woman younger than 24, but I understand we don't always choose for whom we fall. That said, we can choose the manner in which we conduct ourselves. I appreciate manga like this, especially nowadays. Rather than focusing on the physical, they keep an adult head and focus on emotional bonds. Much better than teacherxstudent relationships which seem to be dominating quite a bit of the manga world. All in all, it's not the best story I've ever read, but I enjoy the mature/thoughtful approach to the story nonetheless.
