I've always loved this story and its always such a satisfying read every time I re-read it. A beautiful work of art, enough to sate you and leaving you just near full but not craving. A perfect balance. Its chapters can all stand alone and it's direct to the point.
Yan, with such a terrible life, is a no nonsense lad who won't let anyone blur the lines of his life-long plan to cause ruin to the emperor who wrecked his and his father's life. Yan becomes the emperor's eunuch and enacts a plan to take his sweet revenge, served cold.
Wren sensei dishes out a full course with dessert to the side. One of my favorite 2000s yaoi. It's not stupid for no reason, or iffy just for theatrics, or rapey for the shocks and giggles. Everything has a purpose and the art is mesmerizing and very reminiscent/nostalgic of 2000s yaois but not with the ridiculousness, heck, far from any of that.
Perfectly, a 10/10, overall.
