It was no surprise to hear that this was based on a novel from 14 years ago, having read a lot of books like these all the vibes were there; the drama, the cozy feeling of familiarity, and of course the knowledge that everything would be alright by the end. I sincerely love this story and its characters; the plot feels exciting and optimistic, even if the characters feel grounded in a harsh reality.
Well, it is a story about werewolves and the way that aspect is incorporated is the best one, in my opinion, they are mates which basically spares us from having them doubt every feeling they have before confirming their connection. They know right away that they should be together, but there is still some fun back and forth because of the surprise of the situation, by chapter 5 they are going strong, and it lasts for the entirety of the story.
I love the main couple's relationship not only with each other but also to the way other characters react to them being together, we have a homophobic mom, but most people in this atypical little town seem to be supportive of them. It's probably one of the few works on this platform that features a Native American lead and plenty of other Indigenous characters, and it's wonderful to see.
