I'm a fan of Yoneda Kou's signature style, but I think there is something important missing from this story. Even by her standards, this is too heavy. Don't get me wrong; I live for angsty, unrequited love. But it feels like she forgot to color the happy ending with the actual color. The main character spends all this time pining for this man, yet once they get together, he seems miserable. He has a lot of internalized homophobia to work through and very low self-esteem, and the only thing he hates more than himself is "being treated like a woman." I was honestly offended by the way people talked about women and anything remotely feminine. I know that most people are socialized to hate women, but that doesn't mean these casually harmful remarks won't hurt me. "Are you sure you want to be with me?" "I can't feel your love at all."
