The most refreshing aspect of this story is that it provides a more hopeful look at gay dating and gay culture in general. We are introduced to a person who is conformed to being used, mistreated, and neglected within a romantic relationship purely because he is a gay man, and that often means he doesn't get to expect to be treated well. Our lead character is rather removed from this culture and therefore utterly horrified when he hears about the ex-boyfriend cheating and getting a girl pregnant, and then trying to cheat on her with the uke once the baby is born, and attempts to get him used to being treated better. Takes him on dates under the guise of "practicing being a good boyfriend" when in reality he's just having a hard time confessing to him and coming out. It's very sweet and hopeful.
