Re-reading this has triggered an epiphany like no other. It used to be a favorite of mine; I remember it being sweet, intense, and hopeful. I now realize there wasn't that much to love about this story. I will maintain that the first four chapters are pretty flawless; they're intriguing and keep you guessing in the best way possible. There was an edge to the beginning of the story, an excitement. It was unfortunately extinguished by the middle of the first volume. Things fall apart after they confess; everything happens way too fast to feel important. Suddenly, they are moving in together after what felt like two days, and I wanted the courtship to last longer. It simply went on for too long; there was no need for this story to go on for as long as it did. The best thing about this story was how fresh and exciting it felt to see a gay man with low self-esteem being earnestly pursued. They kept finding ridiculous problems to care about, none of which feels important enough to span a full chapter. In conclusion, the seme says he will always pay attention to what the uke needs and make him happy. Yet, 85% of the story consists of the uke feeling extremely insecure about everything and the seme being oblivious to it all (which is really out of character for him). He continuously fails at being the wonderful boyfriend we believed him to be at the beginning of the story.
