"The general attitude towards LGBT people, among the younger Japanese populace, is to act tolerant on the outside, while shutting them out inside and avoiding their company so as to not stick out. For older Japanese people, outright discrimination is as ordinary to them as their hostility towards foreigners. And for children and teenagers, it is of course a reason to bully." "Our Dreams at Dusk" is another one of those rare realistic representations of LGBTQ+. It portrays the LGBTQ+ people as well as it portrays transphobia and internalised homophobia. Throughout reading this, we come across many events that we can relate to as LGBTQ+ people. The questioning that comes along with it, the oppression we face and the importance of being in a community with people similar to you. I wouldn't call this perfect though. Most stories aren't. But this manga made me happy. It made me sad. It made me tear up. It made me cry. It was so beautiful. This manga is a statement made by Japanese LGBTQ+ people: the reality for them. The story itself is so touching and personal, and it touches on several deep questions, with one of the most prominent being "Why do I have to live in fear and hiding, simply because of my sexuality? Why can't I just be who I am?" No one should be bullied for their sexuality. Ever.

Teacher's Pet

Ongoing | Sorato | 2000 released

NAH COS OH MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK? THE WHOLE STORY FROM START TO END WAS TOP TIER SHIT. now usually, im against this whole teacher x student thing but what made this iffy part acceptable was probably when the teacher was merely a college student and the student was probably only a year away from graduating. but even then, the best part is that the both of them choose to remain civil, respectful and caring to each other throughout the entire story. what hooked me into this story immediately (haha totally not that sussy title and high ass rating ahaha) was WHEN. THE. AUTHOR. INTRODUCED. A GAY COUPLE. WHO ARE FRIENDS WITH THE PROTAGONIST. AND THERE'S NO FUCKING HOMOPHOBIC STIGMA IN THS STORY ANYWHERE AT ALL, other than his friends questioning if our protagonist was "going thru a phase" because they know that "influencing others to become gay cos ur gay" and "making it seem like something that'll be done and dusted with soon" IS LITERAL GODDAMN BS. AND FOR THAT I APPLAUD THEM. (and on a side note, those two boyes are another one of the greatest characters there). and even tho the majority of these female characters were pretty much background characters; it's awesome how the author added an addition of other good-willed female characters who weren't all that bossy and mean, but were instead understanding and friendly! yes, like makoto's mum, his cousin and the female student that confessed to him but realised it wouldn't work out; yes bc makoto deciding to say sht straightforward was the best thing ever omg. oK SO LETS GET TO THE MAIN POINT we have hiyori, whom labels himself as a dog thru out the entire story because of his bitchy cheater girlfriend (call him a dog but u go around sniffing for better people? that's a dog move and makes u look more like a dog as well); he's heartbroken, he's dismayed and in absolute despair. and what does this guy do? goes to a dog cafe and asks a worker if he can be treated like a dog... (cricket sfx) AND SO WHAT THIS WORKER/MAKOTO DOES IS GIVE HIM FREE FOOD, PAT HIM ON THE HAIR, GRIN AND TELL HIM "eat healthily, sleep earlier and go slay the next day" AND HONESTLY WHOEVER TF SAYS THAT TO ME I WILL BE SMITTEN FOR DEAR LORD AND SO WHAT MF HIYORI DOES THE NEXT DAY IS BECME ALL HAPPY GO LUCKY THE NEXT DAY; HE'S SO HAPPY THAT HIS SKINS CLEAR; BUT FUCKING SURPRISE; THE NEW TEACHER THAT COMES TO TEACH HIS CLASS IS... MAKOTO. WOW. WHAT NEXT? the next few chaps then describe the ups and downs both these dudes face; their past, their fears, the honest communication they have between each other, everything that just sums up the reason why those two are amazing af and why i love this manga so much. like i tagged this story; yes i would definitely reread this. but yeah, good mornight, by the time i finished writing this it's 2:50 am and i need THAT sleep to GO SLAY TOMORROW BABHAADFSJKASDF
