Sayonara Alpha

Complete | ICHINASHI Kimi | 2016 released

Not a shouta fan, so I was worried going in. But this is both shouta and omegaverse done right; it uses both in interesting and different and shockingly tasteful ways.

The story of Haesung and Dojin from If You Hate Me So, bbt in omegaverse. Haesung thinks he's an alpha and gets a job at a high profile party to serve so he can pick up a rich omega and live the good life. But he accidentally gets tangled up with Park Dojin, a dominant alpha, and discovers, from going into heat, that he's actually an omega. Things happen, and Haesung runs away. Dojin keeps running into him though, and seems horribly pre-occupied with Haesung's situation. He invites Haesung to live at his house to everyones' dismay, and Haesung accepts because he has nowhere else to go even though he doesn't seem to like Dojin much. and a few incidents later, Haesung is pregnant. The original story Dojin was a huge selfish prick and Haesung was sympathetic. In this version, it's hard to empathize with Haesung's decisions, but Dojin is mostly an angel. I do think this is the better version of the story, mostly because it's much more thought out. Many side characters get stories of their own, and there are future ones planned. The art improved throughout the series, and the author does a good job with the coloring even though she hates doing it. The author is just really good at writing flawed protagonists that occasionally do shitty things and then have a satisfying redemption arc. Looking forward to all spin-offs of this series, and I believe this writer is very capable with her writing, so anything she writes will be well-written even if some of the things that happen are f'd up.
