Lai is a conman who got hired to become a step in substitute of Edwin’s (influential noble) missing brother, Ellen.
As of chapter 24, Lai has discovered that Ellen and the Crown Prince are in cahoots and Ellen didn’t go missing but rather is hiding. The crown prince also knows that Lai is pretending to be Ellen the whole time.
The love triangle is brewing as some backstory shows how Ellen has feeling for Edwin (incest but they’re not actually related), and ever since Lai came into the picture, Edwin’s uncertain feelings are growing.
