Sleeps In Sunbeams's manga / #Doki Doki(20)

Aitsu no Daihonmei

Ongoing | tanaka suzuki | 2008 released

This is the manga that started my love of BL stories. Sato and Yoshio are seemingly such an odd pairing but as a couple they are so sweet and their love is deeply based and really endearing. The series follows them from their first year of high school as they start dating and dealing with the problems of going out with the most wanted guy in high school. Sato has such a sadistic side but Yoshio brings out his inner softness and humour, and it’s pure comedy between the two of them as Sato’s cruel streak is indulged by Yoshio’s tears or overcome by his moments of heartfelt honesty. Highly recommended story.

Short and adorably sweet.

Nar Kiss

Complete | nekono mariko | 2012 released

Cleverly funny with such an original plot! Naru was naive and sweet and his other side was wonderful too. He not only provided many funny moments, but I loved how he embraced his ecchi time with his best friend and lover.

Kokoro (kanda neko)

Complete | kanda neko | 2010 released

Adorable overload! These two were the avatars of sweetness, I loved how it followed a few years and we got to see that their relationship and love for each other only grew and strengthened. One of the best stories, especially with an age gap, and I loved how the seme was so very much in love with his uke, he really seemed to cherish him.

I loved the differences in this story, like that the uke wasn't all sparkly eyed and cute, but vulnerable in his own unique, glary manner. I loved he kindness of the seme and how he respected the strong family ties of his lover and worked hard to not come between the brothers. Lets face it, I just loved this book

Wakabaryou de, Kimi to

Complete | SAKUMOTO Ayu | 2014 released

Higuchi and Hidako were so very sweet, I loved how close they were that so much could be expressed and felt just from their hands touching. Wanibe and Sayama were adorable as they learnt to be roommates and then more. Perhaps it was their difference in size or just the innocence of Sayama's face, but there was a real feeling of protectiveness from Wanibe. The final story between Kirino and the dorm supervisor was very different. These two were physically intimate before they were both emotionally connected (which I usually don't like), but there was something so satisfying about their happy ending. Perhaps because it was the biggest effort put into being together in the end that made it feel like a real HEA and not just a HFN.

Sore o Koigokoro to Yobu no Nara

Complete | Ichikawa Kei | 2014 released

Great story! These two getting together was full of funny moments, but it also had lots of genuine feelings these guys were struggling to get straight with themselves and each other. The friends were so adorably funny too, the 'mother' and 'father' moment had me laughing out loud

Yukidoke no Koi

Complete | itz | 2015 released

I would give the first story of Someya and Takada 5 stars if it was in a solo book. It was a beautifully drawn story with sweet characters I loved. I wasn't interested in the second story and totally avoided the third since I don't read for tragic experiences but to escape them.

Brothers (YAMAMOTO Kotetsuko)

Complete | YAMAMOTO Kotetsuko | 2001 released

I loved this story with the little pocket sized uke who looks like a teen and his beautifully stoic new step brother. Contrary to some other reviewers I appreciated the pace of this manga. There was always a feeling that the English brother had some deep emotions stirring for his new sibling, but if they had acted on that sooner it would have trivialised their loss of their parents. After all, they had just met and become family. When the first stolen kisses were given it was so sweet, and when things fell apart I felt the pangs for sensei as he walked the silent house. It all made the eventual HEA so much sweeter. Beautiful artwork too, and I loved how Yamamoto Kotesuko drew the pretty and feminine friend and the beautiful yet masculine younger brother most particularly.

Loveholic

Complete | Kawai Touko | 2001 released

I am embarrassed to admit I didn’t clue in that the “second story” was Dai’s past until I saw that tattoo. That one broke my heart, had me in tears and then looking angrily for the tragedy tag that would have made me avoid the story. But I am glad I read it because it shows why he will grab onto love and fight for it, putting that person he loves first. This was a beautiful manga even without that backstory, but with it included there was more poignancy and sweetness to the story of now.
