Sleeps In Sunbeams's manga / #Sex friends(8)

The End Kara Hajimaru Junai

Complete | SAKURAI Reiko | 2014 released

Thought the sex friend was a real bastard to treat his lover like that (deliberately making sure he saw the sex). It’s not as if he loved him and was fighting for him, he was just being a dick. Was nice to see them a year down the track, wasn’t sure if the uke would settle with one special guy.

I have no problem with main characters with an active sexual history, but if they give in to passing temptation when they are in love I don’t find them as appealing. It starts in my mind that they can’t be trusted in times a couple argue or have problems because their hedonism will put their sexual satisfaction over their ability to be loyal to the one they love. I was happy to see he adamantly refused and fought when the next opportunity for infidelity arose (this time when the MCs were in a committed relationship). Fingers crossed!

Shigekikei my Hero

Complete | Ryo | 2000 released

A tall, lean young action film star and a strong, muscular stuntman pair up in this sexy and sweet story. Minase has long been an avid fan of the older stuntman Imagi-san and pursues a friendship on set. He is in for a surprise though when he follows him to a gay bar and discovers that his idol is a confident man eater who is happy to set his own terms for being friends. What follows is a great story with beautifully drawn art and sculpted men, all uncensored too. I loved it.

Falling in love in an abusive relationship is a big no for me. Fair enough if you love pain, but that needs to be consensual and with a partner in control. Fair enough to have an obsessed partner dominate you in bed. But hitting because of a sleep uttered name is a nasty, flashing warning and not hot. Nothing sexy or erotic about domestic violence.

Imitation Mate

Complete | Makoto Kashiwagi | 2000 released

A little twisted and unexpected, I loved this walk on the darker side of things with Yoshiki (alpha) and the man he is fixated on, Tsukasa (alpha). I don’t like giving spoilers in a story with differences like this so just know it was interesting watching the MCs develop their relationship.

Ore no Kirai na Tsugaisama

Complete | KIRISHIKI Tokico | 2016 released

I think this mangaka does not like her uke’s very much. In the Omegaverse story the alpha deliberately raped and bit the omega. Not because he was overwhelmed by his nature, or full of lust and/or love. Simply from cruelty, the desire to control and dominate his boss. A horrible story because even at the end, the omega hated the alpha. And the bullshit excuse of putting up with a lifetime of rape and bullying so he doesn’t have to take his suppressants? Wtf kind of crap is that? Then, the other stories... The high schooler who blackmails the salaryman over old AV vid he was in and makes him have sex in public. Turns out the salaryman was fine with it but the dynamic was poor between the two. The story was meant to be erotic with a foot job under a restaurant table and fear of being caught, but the pair had no chemistry. The suicidal friend story I was looking forward to, but it ended unresolved and was way, way to short to do justice to such a sensitive topic. Total letdown, but has potential. The otaku friend in bondage story also had potential but it fizzled as it felt like a meaningless and opportunistic fuck with zero deepening of their friendship subsequent to having sex. The only story that was ok was the horrible doctor one and the male nurse. This one was good because they both recognised the dark nature beneath the friendly smile AND they developed feelings for each other. But even in this story the uke had to be sexually assaulted by a stranger.. like I said; this mangaka doesn’t like their ukes. They don’t have love enter the stories, they like the ukes to be raped and powerless without any retribution. It’s not even reflective of good BDSM relationships which have aftercare and trust and safe words. So, read if you like these kinds of stories. I was really disappointed.

Yajuu ga Koibito

Complete | GOJOE Tiger | 2000 released

Very possessive seme x soft uke. Date Kinnosuke was a script writer who had fallen for new actor Furuya Mako when they first met. Soon the two entered a sex friends relationship that wasn’t enough for either of them. Mako felt toyed with, desiring a closer lover like connection with the older man he admired so much. Date was insecure of his hold on the beautiful young man he felt fate had brought to him, especially as fans started gathering around Mako. It took a night at a love hotel and angry frustration from both men to reveal their true deeper feelings for each other. I liked how it was the weaker seeming uke who was strong enough to be vulnerable and determined enough to be demanding of a confession that made these two get on the right track at the end.

Baka ni Koi toka Shoujiki Muri ja ne?

Complete | TAKAHIRA Rito | 2016 released

Such a perfect pair! The somewhat gloomy and intelligent Nanase, who has secretly loved his best friend for 5 years. And ofc, Hina, the object of his affections and a national treasure level idiot who's a delinquent but isn't scary. I can totally understand why Nanase loves Hina even though he is clueless. He’s just adorable. Adorably clueless, adorably honest and genuine, adorably adorable. Beautiful art, a fun storyline and the support of the friends was a nice bonus, this manga ticked all my boxes.
