So beautiful I never thought to love a Father/Son yaoi, but this story... I am so glad I gave it a try

A great blend of mystery and the supernatural.

Red River

Complete | SHINOHARA Chie | 1995 released

An epic graphic novel set in the time of the dominance of the ancient Hittite Empire. The FL started as a 15 year old school girl from Japan who was forcibly transmigrated many thousands of years to the past and the city of Anatolia. There she met Prince Kail and found herself falling for the roguish playboy whilst becoming embroiled in the murderous schemes of the Dowager Queen. This story spans years and along the way Yuri is in the thick of political intrigue, war, kidnappings and revolution. I liked how she became stronger as a woman over time. Always a little impulsive and reckless but gradually tempering that with maturity. Yuri was charismatic and I appreciated that she wasn’t restricted by her gender in her ability to be a powerful woman in her own right. The romance plot line was very sweet. Yuri and Kail were devoted to each other and for all the prince wanted to keep Yuri tucked away and protected he never stood in her way and valued her opinions and independence. The secondary characters were great, from the twin bodyguards to the enemy leaders and generals to the dowager Queen. There were some heartbreaking moments that had me crying, but overall this was a really entertaining romantic adventure that I loved.

Sand and Song of the Seas

Complete | You Shi , Misha | 2000 released

By an amazing stroke of luck, I read Red River before this story and while they were of different times by different authors, it was the descendants of Red River who featured in this story. This story was beautifully drawn and the characters were wonderful enough that I wanted their happiness to be really special. I liked the ML more than the FL because his love and devotion were so all encompassing. Ramses had to bear the pangs of separation way more than Ivy and his dedication to getting her back was enough to break my heart at times. Not to say that Ivy wasn’t also prepared to sacrifice all for Ramses, just that he suffered. I liked the ending (though a part of me didn’t care if history stayed a little different for them to be together) and read that there is a potential for more. Tbh I am happy just seeing them finally together. I know that those two souls will love each other anywhere, anytime.

Ikemen Sengoku - Tenkabito no Onna ni Naru Ki wa Nai ka

Complete | Cybird,KAJIYAMA Mika | 2000 released

Oda Nobunaga is the Demon Daimyo of the Sixth Heaven, the destroyer of Shinto and Buddhism and fated to die at the Temple of Honno-ji. Only in this story, this warlord of the Sengoku period finds a new destiny in the hands of transmigrated Mizusaki Mai, a young woman in her 20s from 500 years in the future who lands in the past and saves Nobunaga from the fires of Honno-Ji. I love this era and was happy to see Nobunaga become the Great Unifier of Japan and get to chase his own HEA with someone who loved him wholeheartedly rather than missing on seeing his vision come to fruition. This story was sweet thanks to the influence of the FL who wasnt a pushover and played to her strengths in this war torn era. Nobunaga’s gradual conquest of Mai was adorable and overall I really loved their romance.

The Green Knight's Love from Above - Sweet Things to Be Served After Training-

Rune is transmigrated to France in the era of Marie Antoinette where she is saved by a green eyed man on a white horse. However, this guy has plans for the petite Rune that involves hands on training. And lips on..and more. The story was an okay read, it’s just that the ML was a manipulative pimp for most of the story, one who was willing to let a girl be gifted to a sleezebag for social clout. That made him rather unlikeable for me, though there was some hope in the ending for a happier relationship.

Saver Manhwa

Complete | lee eun young | 2002 released

This was a rather epic adventure story with many characters to follow. The FL Ley, was a strong willed girl flung into a world of turmoil and war. She was the unknowing child of a prophecy that would have her at the centre of battle and pivotal for the outcome. Masquerading as a man, Ley gathered allies and made enemies along her travels. Among them was Lucian, a king ready to fight for his embattled lands. He was the main romantic lead, a man she dreamt about before meeting and one who loved her and vowed to make her his queen. Unlike many of the comments I have read here about the ending, I thought it was good. The majority of time was spent winning the war and the battle was appropriately intense and drawn out. Her time back in the real world was short, but there was no need to spend time there; she had changed and grown and basically just had to say goodbye and let go the angst of her past. Then she would return and all the things promised by Lucien would be in her future. Plus, all those good friends made along the way. A story with lots of action, character growth and friendships but lighter on the romance (there were priorities of war after all), this was a good read if you love reading about a genuinely strong and independent FL who spends most of the story being perceived as a man.

Scattered Courtesan

Complete | TAKANO Yumi | 2000 released

This was different for a reincarnation type story. The FL travels to the Edo period following an accident and becomes a prostitute in the red light district. There she meets and falls for a hairdresser, but relationships are forbidden. I found the story lacked in a few areas for me. Firstly, she had been a prostitute for more than half a year but still acted like a shy virgin with Shouhei, all blushes and embarrassment. I doubt that one of the most in demand courtesans in the red light district would be like that after a week, let alone months. Also, the phone with the battery life of a year (we should all be so blessed). Not one I would re read, but it was ok.

Samurai Lover

Complete | Shoco | 2000 released

A fun romp with a time displaced samurai from the Meiji era (Aza Kaneatsu) and the college student grandson of a temple priest (Higaira Ikkei). The only way for Kaneatsu to return to his own time is for someone to fall in love with him. Unconcerned if that person is a guy or girl, Kaneatsu turns to Ikkei and demands his love. So starts the fun with this story that doesn’t take itself too seriously and two adorable guys who will find out that love has a time and place, and is best spent together.

Primitive Boyfriend

Complete | Kitafuku yoshineko | 2019 released

Kamigone Mito is a beautiful 17yo school girl saddened by the lack of manly men to fall in love with. When the Goddess of the Harvest helps this farm girl find the man of her dreams, she has to travel a whole lot further than she could ever imagine. 2.5 million years back in time in fact, amidst the savanna and predators she will find a primitive hero and fall in love. I have to say, I absolutely loved this amazing story. It was not just an epic adventure into ancient timelines, but there was a lot of growth for the heroine too. She adapted to daunting conditions, faced loss and hardship, and even matured enough to learn to look beneath her superficial judgements of others. I can’t believe how much the author packed into this manga without it ever feeling rushed. A clear and definite special, rare find story that stands apart from others, I loved this more than I imagined.
