Sleeps In Sunbeams's manga / #writer(14)

Aisaretaino

Complete | Yamakami Riyu | 2004 released

A tsundere seme makes the most of a high school reunion to declare his love for the man he has thought of for 8 years. It’s just a shame the competitive uke was too drunk to recall. A sweet story of misconceptions and attraction between two adorable guys.

Ashita Wa Joutenki

Complete | Yamakami Riyu | 1999 released

A sweet, lighthearted story with a quirky seme with a talent for role play and his neighbour who brings a touch of caring stability. They are an odd couple but they seem to be good for each other and it’s a pleasant story to read.

Turning Point (yaoi)

Complete | takanaga hinako | 2005 released

I enjoyed this story, it was different to have such a pessimistic character as a MC. I wasn’t sure if I always liked him, he was prickly and insecure, however that vulnerability was also endearing. Contrastingly, Imamura was adorable and energetic. I loved his stubborn persistence and sweet caring nature.

Yume no Kuni in My Darling

Complete | ABE Akane | 2000 released

All these stories fall short of being great, though the first one had the sweetest, most complete ending and was the best. I loved Anji and sensei but it was seriously let down by the ending. Anji’s character had so much potential to explore his loneliness and edge of danger but it ended well short of the 2 being a couple. You can see they are moving towards mutually strong feelings but the mangaka just let all that potential go to waste. Such a shame. The last short was a super quick oneshot with sex between a yakuza and host. It was more a teaser than anything worth reading. The host went from having sex with some random girl from his club to the yakuza guy. Tacky

Orikou Yaju Niwa Aragaenai

Complete | Sunae hata | 2019 released

These two couples were beyond adorable, they were just so cute. The first pair with the novelist and teacher was my favourite. Watching Shun-san start enjoying himself and laughing with friends was sweet by itself, then adding his adoring gentle beast made for one of those feel good stories I always live to find.

Re:birth

Complete | Mitsuaki Asou | 2000 released

Two orphaned boys sharing a room at an orphanage become a pair. It should be sweet and simple for Habaki and En who have forged the closest of bonds, but it becomes anything but simple when Habaki has his rut triggered at school by an omega’s sudden heat and attacks the omega. Fast forward a few years an Habaki is a detective investigating a serial rapist and murderer of omegas. His bonded partner En is avoiding him and refusing marriage and at the same time is struggling with writing. The beautiful man seems trapped and hurting but Habaki showers him with loving support. Ah..the pain in this story that is burdening En is shared freely with the reader. While he seems distant and even cold at first, as his writing starts to make sense we can see that En is really the sweetest of men; a man trapped by good intentions and his own loving heart. Really, all praise to the mangaka for the story that made my heart ache and the art which was simply brilliant. This was a gem in Omegaverse.

An interesting story about secrets from the past that come to light when Leonie agrees to write the biography of a famous actress. I liked the art and although the story was fast paced the MCs were obviously sparking against each other. I enjoyed watching Leonie get flustered by the ever changing Luke.

Letters to Kelly

Complete | Suzanne brockmann | 2019 released

T. Jackson Winchester II was her older brothers best friend and her first True Love. Kelly fell for the kind 22yo when she was just 12. Over the years he would spend summers with her family in their little cottage and when she was 16 he stepped in to take her to prom. That was the night Kelly got the courage to confess her feelings and she received a solemn promise from T. to propose on her 18th birthday. Of course, this story would be too short if it all ended happily on her 18th. Instead, broken hearted Kelly comes face to face with T years later at University after her divorce to another man. When T hands over a letter to Kelly her world is turned upside down. The rest of the story follows this pair as old wounds are opened and the truth of the past is finally revealed. It’s a sweet story, T is a really genuine kind of guy and Kelly’s feelings are mostly relatable. Nice in that Harlequin kind of style with the focus on romance and relationships more than smexy intensity.

Pornographer

Complete | MARUKIDO Maki | 2000 released

A surprisingly deep story with a ML who verges on being unlikeable but the mangaka saves him by invoking empathy instead. College student Haruhiko Kuzumi’s life changes the day he rides his bike into novelist Renjiro Kijima, breaking the older man’s hand. A poor college student, Haruhiko can’t compensate Kijima for the accident. So, Kijima offers Haruhiko an unusual deal. Haruhiko can transcribe Kijima’s latest story as he orally dictates it. Little does Haruhiko know, Kijima specializes in erotic novels. Kijima’s alluring voice soon draws him into a world of sensual daydreams. The eroticism of the stories being dictated and the fantasies of Kuzumi were beautifully depicted. The deceptive eccentricity of Kijima was so interesting for a MC, but it was that raw vulnerability of a man yearning to write that really won me over. Looking forward to the next volume.

Zoku Pornographer Playback

Complete | MARUKIDO Maki | 2019 released

*This story begins after Pornographer.* Rio, erotic author, incompetent with technology, usually with a phone on 0% battery. And Kuzumi, hos younger lover, a slave to his new job as an advertiser with no time to write to Rio. Both struggle to work through their long-distance relationship. When Rio runs away from his family obligations and hurts his arm (again), he starts rooming with the instigator of his injury. Kuzumi, on the other hand, tries to confront Rio to do something about their relationship... but can Kuzumi find him and manage to bring him back? This was a good conclusion. Rio opened up after resisting and feeling like a fraud in his family/ someone who didn’t belong. It was difficult for him; becoming more vulnerable but tough enough to choose to be that way. The art was beautiful and I really liked how these complex characters concluded their story.
