I once read a story similar to this one: It's in a time where through a genetic checkup it can be determined very early if that person will need an organ-transplant later, then they are cloned just with the gen that would lead to the non-functioning organ fixed. The clones are raised to grow that necessary organ and then have to die. Just in one case, the clone and the original person met, talked a lot and finally decided to switch places. The people around them only realized when the "clone" suddenly died bc their heart did not work properly.
