You know, I really debated on my feelings for this one. The art is gorgeous, and I like the mind games and kinks, etc. I wasn't crazy about the rapey elements, even though they were very mild for yaoi. It was easier to forgive because the characters are supposed to be a little messed up, and it wasn't forceful like you usually see. It was all a little too convenient, but that's often how yaoi goes, and ultimately, the couple is supposed to be twisted, so the rough sex between them and the unhealthy obsession fits just fine. My problem is more with the many yaoi manga out there that contain similar themes but act like it's healthy and lovely. So that in mind, I really enjoyed the story. I can forgive the things that put me off, because I like the way that they fucked with each other, and I appreciated that there was a lot less beating around the bush. Plus, it's sooooo pretty. This art is amazing. I hope she draws a million more manga. I want to read it all. Oh, and piercings! I love the delinquent look, which I believe is what made me start reading this from the beginning. So sexy, ugh.

Sex Friends

Complete | Uehara Ari | 2015 released

The art in this is gorgeous. It makes me want to die. I usually skim sex scenes in yaoi because they're often drawn in weird, awkward ways, but these are absolutely beautiful. I liked this manga, though I do wish there'd been more time for emotional catharsis. In the end, they're only having sex with one another, but it'd be nice if they could work out something more honest. They clearly both love one another but just can't say it. This is just one moment in their lives, though. I think eventually they'll come to a healthier place. At least they're devoted to one another. I would have given it a five if there'd been an emotional climax, but the transition was very anticlimactic, like, oh, I'm not gonna break up with him just because you told me. And that's supposed to be his grand gesture. I think a lot of people are overreacting with their hate, but that's okay. I can see how this sort of story might not work for them. And honestly, it wasn't as satisfying for me either, because they just keep going around pretending, even if they both know they love one another. I do like the glimpses of the gay bar where they met and gay culture like that, though. I wish more yaoi focused on groups of gay friends and that whole scene.
