The characters might come over as annoying in the beginning, but at the ending you'll have fallen in love with them :) The character development is great and so is the plot. The art style doesn't look that old at all! (Only the clothes might come over as old.) Just read it! ;)
Edit: funny how anno 2021 the problematic parts are so much clearer to me. Kanae is scum. And the clothes actually look fashionable again now, lol
