I wouldn't call it racist, I would call it just plain mean. If there's no reason to call them that, why do it? They're living their life, just like you. I have black neighbors and I'm not calling them black roaches. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying white people are oppressed etc etc because we're not. the author pulled out the childhood friends card only to make yahwi look like he did what he did because of his past and because of a possible trauma.
